Daytona bike week first timer
Went with two of my sons last spring. Traffic sucked. If they would shut down main street for bikers it would be great. Cagers were a big problem. Saw accidents every day. I want to go back but sons don't want to repeat.
This will be my first time down to daytona for bike week and was wondering if there is anything important that I need to know on my visit down there.... Places to visit...Things I should or should not do...good scenic routes....and some good campgrounds... any input would be great thanks
First and formost. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE ! If you drink plan on being there for a while till your blood alcohol level drops to a legal limit. Last year the Broward, Seminole & Volusa police department arrested 3967 bikers for DUI. Issued 11345 tickets during 1006 Spring feast and Biktoberfest. Plus theres cops snooping all over Hells half achre just looking for anything . Watch where you turn around at. Read all the road signs. the cops have unmarked cars everywhere .Be careful out there.
Second. If you will look on the official Daytona bike rally web site, it gives a basic layout of what's going on. there's so much to do , I take what's the most important to me and set up each day. I still miss a lot. Now even the adjoining towns have little rallies. At Rosmyres there's everything for the Harley rider. At Daytona speedway, you can demo just about every motorcycle on the planet for free. One catch though. You have to have DOT approved helmets to ride. theres the Daytona speed way where you can enjoy motorcycle races. You can actually take a ride around the speedway for a small donation. Downtown, you can sit there all night and enjoy beautiful bikes and lively characters. The music is good. theres bars all along Highway 1. but be careful. this is where the police hang out the most.
It's best to get a brochure and plan your days. there's little rallies everywhere. Have a blast and be safe.
You'll find plenty to see and do at Bike Week. If you like to ride, go up the beach onA1A to Flagler Beach, cut inland through the pine forests and potato fields to Hastings, and ride 13 up the east side of the St. Johns River. Cut off on 16 and return through St. Augustine. Do that and you'll be able to tell folks back home about the real Florida. Enjoy.
If you're south from St. Augustine viaUS1, check out Renni's Rooster in Bayard. Sunday's are best. During bike week she brings in good bands.

You wouldnt have the GPS to that would you ? Sounds great.
Avoid Highway 40 toward Ocala at night, I've almost gotten killed on that road between the high speed crotch rockets racing each other and the drunk drivers.
Spend that couple of hours on Main and get your pictures then beat feet out to the other places mentioned above.
Make sureyou have clear eye pro on at night if you don't have a full face helmet.
