Default I don't get it.

Looked at eBay today.....

Howpeople can have a Harley for 6 years, put 30k into it, only put on 2400 miles and turn around to sell for 9 to 13k.

What a waste...

Just don't get it..

Yeah, but aren't we glad. For those of us that think buying used is the only way to go, we owe these kind of folks alot of gratitude !!

It's the age old question. See it in the classifieds all the time and can't understand it either.

Whats to understand?
Only certain collectors vehicles go up in value. Harleys in general are not collector vehicles.
Aftermarket add ons and performance upgrades cost money, but dont add value, except to someone who doesnt know any better.

The other day there was a thread here in the opposite direction - asking how people can think to try to sell their used bikes for as much as they paid new - partly because of all the chrome they added.

Maybe to them it wasnt alot?
or maybe it was worth it.
Riding is more than a hobby to me. However to many its just a hobby, and like any other hobby it costs money.
Take racing.
Hobby racers put buku bucks into the machine. They dont get any return on that money in the way of resale.
Hobby Biking is the same.
A guy gets a bike, puts money into it, decides it isnt quit right, sells it and buys the next one, which he thinks is the right one, and probably goes through the same process.
Then there is the guy that buys the bike, gets all the goodies, then finds out he doesnt really like riding. Boom, time to sell it.
Or the guy that bought into the image, only to find out the bike didnt make him cool like he thought. Boom, time to sell.
Or the guy that is into speed and handling, but gets pressured into a HD by his friends. He finds out that carving canyons, riding the twisties, and track days are his real passion. Boom, time to sell.
See?

P.S. Dont forget the guys that were in real estate and got real flush for a few years.
Alot of those guys bought all the toys. Now that the partys over, alot of those guys are dumping the toys to cover expenses.
