The style is called 3/4 helmet. If cost is no object and you want good stuff, check out Arai and Shoei. Both make that style and are superior stuff. The Arai is a little pricier and also a little lighter in weight.
I bought their 3/4 Jimmy Lightning in black & silver. I got it locally at 20% off. I think it cost me just over $50. It's reasonably comfortable and retro cool (or tacky, depending on how you look at it ).
How's the fit? Does the helmet seem big overall? Any chance of a pic?
You can see it on their website. They're true to size. I have a large and it fits fine. Most DOT helmets will make you look like a Darth Vader...
I have the Z1R Jimmy Retro in large. While it's nice and comfy, the thing makes my head look huge.I barely wear it.Might have to go the non DOT route.
Just ordered a Daytona 3/4 matte black..today..I wanted one from JustifiedDef. but just couldn't part with that many beans right now. I hope the Daytona is as advertised. My noodle is big enough without any help. Should have it next week and will have feedback then..
Wasn't looking for a new lid until this thread but my interest was peaked once again and I pulled the trigger..fingers crossed, thanks for all the links..
Been havin' a hard time finding a DOT helmet that didn't balloon my noggin' to all hell. I just ordered a vintage Shoei from Justified Defiance for $129 -- that seems like a decent price to me for a good fitting helmet.
After a number of email conversations with PanEd (one of the guys at JD), he pointed me towards the helmets he thought would suit my needs best. He said the Shoei's had the smallest outside circumference of any vintage helmets they carried. They weren't the most expensive models either, so I fell the guy wasn't just tryin' to snag my cash.
Ordered Daytona 3/4 helmet on 2/28 rec'd it today 3/3 via UPS ground. Nice courteous follow emails from them, with ACCURATE invoicing and UPS tracking numbers. Wifey says it just got to the house. Try it tonight and due to weather wear it on the scoot on wednesday..
I hope it is as good as advertised, being slim like the old Shoei's.
Put some feedback about it after tryin it out..
Time to retire the beanie with all the nice eloquent stickers on it, its getting too damn hard to hide it from my kids,...
The old Bell R/T helmets, for 60 bucks. They even have the old style face shields, and visors w/ the half shields that I haven't seen in quite some time.
