A underlying factor is also stupidity.
Cruisers are for cruising, racers are for racing.
If one can't even understand that, and tries to race on a cruiser and then whines about performance, well, how stupid (and pathetic) is THAT?

Oh, and about Easy Rider, I didn't even see the movie.
I bought the bike because I like it, not because others may like it.
True, there are sad peoples who worry more about how others see them than about how they really are and what they really like, and try in some way to compensate for very low self esteem and / or small penises. Some do it with a fake badass look, some do it with a race bike.
The method is different, the cause is the same, pathetic, one.

BTW...
There are the Ferrari, there are the Rolls Royces.
While Ducati is considered the Ferrari of motorcycles, Harley is considered the Rolls Royce, and for very good reasons.
Last, but not least, performance is not the sole measurement of the pleasures life offers, and what a sad specimen of human being are the ones who don't get this.
I own a mechanical watch when a quartz Swatch would be far more accurate for a fraction of the price.
I write with a fountain pen which hase given me some trouble lately, when a ball point would perform flawlessly for a fraction of the price.
I ride a Harley Davidson. And if HD wasn't here, it'd be a Norton, or a Royal Enfield, or a vintage bike.
Either one understands, or he doesn't.
The lack of understanding that power and speed aren't the sole measurements of a bike performance is qualifying enough that it doesn't requires really further comment.
I have a friend of mine who's been riding since he was 13, and prediliges japanese rockets. He tests bikes for a magazine. He says that, when it comes to cruisers, he's yet to find another bike as good as the latest Harley Davidsons in that role.

Don't worry. It's not worth the effort.
Here a summary which manages to convey the full content of the article:
"Harley sucks yadda yadda yadda harleystas are idiots yadda yadda yadda bike slow my jap's faster."

Well put! All too seldom folks don't understand the pleasure of true quality, regardless ofwhat it may be. Whether it be a well made watch, a finely crafted fountain pen, or a machine like a Harley-Davidson; its intrinsic value is more than the thing itself, it comes from the pleasure of its quality. Quality that you can feel, quality that moves you.

I agree with 99octane. I buy things that I like, bikes cars clothes etc. There is an image attached with every product we come into contact with. When you think Chevy, an image comes to mind. When you think Honda, an image comes to mind. We all perceive the world a little differently.
