I ask this question just out of curiosity. I just bought an 08 superglide, made 1 payment, the loan is for 7000.00, I have the detachable windshield, backrest, pillion, vance and hines pipes, forward controls, and a few decorative things on it, I have been killing myself trying to figure out how to pay it off quick so that in a year or so I can trade up to a touring bike. My question is this, should I even worry aboutpaying it down or just trade in a year, I am justconcerned that they may only try to give me a couple grand for the trade. My wife says to relax and enjoy the bike now and not worry about paying it off, but I am always planning ahead!

Evidently not. You just bought an '08 and are already toying with the idea of trading in the thing? Doesn't sound like you planned ahead as it relates to the '08 purchase? Just sayin'.........
Well if you can pay it off, you're saving money on the interest of the loan. But if you don't want to lose a lot of money, sell the bike, don't trade it in.

If you follow this advice you'll save atleast several thousand dollars.
It doesn't sound like you planned to far ahead when you bought your bike. The superglide is a really nice bike. Try to enjoy it while you own it. When you feel you can't enjoy it anymore, either sell outright or trade. You will lose money either way but you can then buy what you want. I can tell you from experience, if you have it in your head after 1 payment that you want another bike, you are never going to fully enjoy the bike you have. You will get to the point where it will be worth losing a bit of money to get the bike you want.

well usaully I plan ahead, this purchase was on a whim. I just do not want to get stuck 2-3 years from now with a bike that is not worth much. I guesswhat I am trying to find out is how much in the negative might a I be when I do get ready to trade it.
Keep the Superglide and ride it. During this time, decide what it isyou really want, so you don'tlose any more money on depreciation, bank interest, freight/prep charges, trade allowance, etc. Who knows, some saddle timewith theGlide might even convince you to keep the bike.
Why don't you ask your dealer what you are thinking about? They may give you a good deal, they may not. One way or the other, they will make money on you (i.e. they could give you a great trade in where you only lose a little but then make you pay MSRP + accessories or they could give you a crappy trade in and $2K off MSRP.. Who knows?).
My guess isthat you will lose money but hey, most of us have. However, if this is your first bike, why don't you ride it a little and make sure that you like riding. Otherwise, you could lose 2X.
