Before you buy a jacket, make sure to cheeck out the FXRG middleweight jackets at your local dealership. This jacket is very versatile, and will do everything that you want from a jacket from rain to cold weather and everything in between!
I have both the textile and leather jackets. I think both will protect as well as the other. Evel wore leather and went down many times and all the crotch rocket guys wear textile and there must be a reason for that. If money is an issue I would go textile first then leather when the bucks get back in the wallet.
A Harley requires a leather jacket. Besides, leather is a natural material and breathes better than the plastic jackets, even if they are ventilated.
Harley brand jackets, though, are currently all imported, as far as I know. You can go to legendaryusa.com and get USA made jackets of much better quality. Be sure to use the iwjkt coupon code to get ten percent off. And if you have an old Schott perfecto you can trade it in for a $75 credit.
I'm old school. I prefer a well broken in Schott Perfecto or old Buco J24 horsehide jacket. When I race my Speedway bike me and all the other old farts wear leathers and all theyoung buckswear Kevlar.
I need some advice on what jacket to buy. I was at the dealer and it was a toss up between the foresaken textile, or the nightfall leather. This will be my first mc jacket so I need a lil help. Need to know about warmth, fit, safety, things like that. I like em both the same so I need your help deciding. I'll be riding in the midwest on an 08 ultra.
Both of the jackets you mentioned are nice. I too looked at them but ended up buying the Honor 3-in-1. I only wear leather while riding and think this jacket is the most versatile. It has a warn zip out vest with hood so it will be good for cold weather andwithout the vest it is an uninsulated medium weight leather with front and back zippered vents so it can be worn in hot weather without burning up. I also like thegraphic on the back. They are all great and I am sure you will be happy with whatever you get. While HD jackets are spendy, I believe they are top quality and are worth it. Just my .02.
Truth is... like everything else on a bike, you'll soon have more jackets....
Frank
Very true. You can plan on owning more than one jacket. I have two leather jackets, one mesh jacket and one leather vest to cover all weather conditions.

I bought a Fieldsheer Tourmaster and love it in the cool/cold weather. It's waterproof and warm. It has a zip out liner and several vents for warm weather so I intended to wear itin the summer.Too hot!!!!It's useless to me when I'm riding and it's hanging in my closet at home. I need to find some protection that I would wear in the summer.
