On page 2-88 of the Service Manual. " Tighten lower shock bolt to 30-45 ft lbs. Tighten top shock bolt to 33-35 ft lbs." This can't be right! That is barely tight at all. What is the right setting on the torque wrench?
Hey single I have an 01 RK and my manual says lower shock bolt 35-40 ft lbs and upper shock mounting bolt 33-35 ft lbs. I think Pat was saying to make sure your using a ft lbs torque wrench and not an inch lbs torque wrench.
JUST TIGHTEN IT !!!! Wrap up that new torque wrench and put it away. Do you really believe that the HD service techs or the assembly line workers are "torquing every nut and screw on the bike? critical internal engine and transmission componments require proper torquing. The only other three torques values you need are : snug, tight and MF tight. Make the shock mounts tight, as in not as tight as the rear axle (MFtight) but tighter then the seat mount screw (snug).
Hey lecomte38; I agree with ya. I just tightened it really snug. Not really worried about it; was just wondering if it was right cause it seems pretty light to me. Figured it was a good chance to try outthe new wrench. Thanks guys for the responses.
