Hey Chad. Here's an idea to help you out.
Go to Cycletrader, punch in 1940 to 1969 in the search criteria. Should pull up a bunch of flh's, just start looking at pics there, and you should see some with decent pics of the tanks. Just an idea for ya if you have the inckling.
My personal all time favorite is the first one, it is 1940-1946 It also has a stainless "band" trim that runs the length of the tank. Unfortunately, the trim will only fit 3 1/2 gal tanks. But that is my fav.
I have a NOS pair of the second from the top. They are 8/34 " long and 1 7/8 wide at the widest part. Parts card says they're from the 40's and 50's. If you decide on that style let me know, I'll part with them cheap.
For a comparison, stock RKC tank badges are 6 5/8' long and 1 3/4' wide.
