I'm not sure where you heard that they were "supposed to look more like a Harley, almost twins". They are a completely different style of bike - which to me is better than if they just cloned a Harley. I think they should (and do) have their own identity and, as someone stated, the salesmen shouldn't be comparing them to a Harley if they really want the brand to stand on it's own.
The Victorys are more of a "sleek, modern" design whereas the Harleys area "traditional, classic" design. Both appeal to me, depending on my mood. My buddy has an 04Kingpin (he paid about $7,800 used - so buy them used if you want one) and it is a very, very nice ride - smooth, all-day comfort. Perfect fit if you are 6' 2" like me. I still prefer the sound/feel of a Harley engine though - although the Vic is a powerful engine. Harleys have more/better detailed bits and pieces to them- but I like the overall shape/style of the Vics as well. (except the vision)
I'll very likely get a Vegas (used one) at some point in the future.
Somethings on their bikes really appeal to me. Only problem is, other things on the same bike REALLYDO NOTappeal to me. And they're way overpriced! At least around here.
I tried all there bikes on there Demo Run last summer, and they are a nice bike but no wheres near a Harley IMO. My biggest beef was the dealer kept comparing them to Harley's instead of creating his own brand identity...
Victory needs to stop comparing itself to Harley Davidson and create there own feel and taste...
Great point.
I worked for a Vic dealer since it's inception back in '99.
Vics are an AWESOME bike. They handle incredible, stop incredible, and are very reliable. They have suffered from lack of style up until the Vegas, and the Jackpot. There is just no aftermarket support, and the Vics are the new guy on the block. Vics are also "efficient".... hardcore potential "harley" customers don't want an "efficient" bike, they want a bike with "soul".....
I agree 100% Vic needs to chill out and let the brand mature and grow. Vic wanted to set the american cruiser market on fire back in '99 and they fell WAY short. However for the rider, a Vic will spank a Harley in every aspect of performance except the most influential aspect........ "badass soul"

Agreed.Their first bikes wereugly with a capital "UHG!". These days, except for the Vision, all of their current line-up is basically just a Vegas with different fenders/seats/etc. The Vegas is/was a great looking bike, but it has been around a while now and it will be interesting to see if they can come up with a successful follow on to the basic Vegas design or if it was justa "one-hit wonder". Contrary to popular belief, the Vegas was designed by in-house designers (not Arlen Ness, he came along after the project was basically complete) - but if the Vision is indicative of what their current designers are thinking...then I'm not too optimistic about their future designs.
But I still like the Vegas - and you don't see one around very often, so that appeals to me. But they are going to have to come up with a new design soon (besides the Vision).
Oh yeah...new ones ARE overpriced. But I also think that about HD's.
There's a seat fer every buttock..... and a buttock for every seat.... Victory made the "final 2" for me.... but they screw up when they dropped the TC.... the little bags on a king pin, made me look elsewhere
