Default 2003 vs 2006 Softail's

I would like to know what your thought's are about this? Sense the 2006 might and probably will be the last year for the Carbs...I wonder in a few years ahead, if the 100 year Anniversary Harley or, the last year of the Carb if it is 2006? who know's yet would be more valuable.

I am sure some folks are wondering the same? Any input on this thought?

Ride Safe!

I don't think either will be worth anymore. Some of us will always prefer carbs but you also have the crowd that likes all the new doo dads.
There will be no shortage of used carbed bikes in the future for anybody that wants one. 30 years down the road, who knows.

I think a carbed bike will be more desireable in a few years. Looking at used bikes around here, it seems the carbed ones sell pretty quickly.[&:]

I bought an '04 Dyna WG thinking it would be the last year of the carb. Wasn't too far off. Carbs are for me, but believe H-D will include nice features in future bikes like six speed, more power, etc. that will make them very desirable.

I think I just read something on this forum about a bike being converted from FI to carb. I believe it was Mikeisgliden that made the post, but I'm not sure. Any more I can't remember past yesterday.

Anyway, there is always the option of converting if one can't live without a carb, so I wouldn't think that a carbed bike would be worth much more. As far as anniversary, special edition, etc., don't count on them to be worth any more that any other use bike. Guys bought the 85th anniversary for investment, nada,
people bought the 90th anniversary, again nada. Then there is the Daytona Dyna, the 30th ElectraGlide, and on and on. The only one I know of that might have a little collector appeal is the Sturgis Special Edition Super Glide. I'm thinking that it was a 1982 model, but not sure.

Just an opinion, but I wouldn't buy a new bike with investment in mind. I've made more money investing in good HD art than in any of the bikes I've had.

Regards,

Bill

Just a quick note on the memory part. Had my first HARLEY for just a week. Put the keys up for safe keeping. Heart was racing for what seemed like an hour before I found them.

Bill...I was just wondering what some folks thought?

I bought my HD to ride and not keep it in a bubble for and investment, and trust me its going to get the ride of a life time!

Al,

Did I somehow offend with my answer? If so I apologize. You asked for opinions and I expressed mine because I thought that was the kind of info you were looking for.

Bill

Al

I think you are asking which would be the better move here...
I really don't think that it would make a difference in the future as far as being worth more. Everything is relative here, if the FI is more to purchase, it may bring a few more $$$ at resale time, but as far as a carb being worth more at time of sale because of the fact that they are not available any longer (shortly), don't think it will matter unless you happen to find a diehard carb person wanting to buy your exact model. Look what the MOCO did with the 03 bikes, everyone thought they would be a good investment with the 100 years and all, then they extended the model year by 6 months and blew everyone away with that thinking.
