Why don't they just call it the "Little Sturgis, Kentucky Rally" and tell them westerners to pound sand?

Does this mean that Sturgis SD thinks motorcyclists are so stupid that we don't know the difference between South Dakota and Tennessee? And where would Sturgis SD be without the Jackpine Gypsys MC who started the rally with their motorcycle races? Looks like another greedy little burg that's scared to death that a tourist dollar will be spent and they won't get a shot at it.

Well if they didn't before they do now. Little Sturgis is in Kentucky. [:'(]
Point taken though. I think if you look up the history of the Little Sturgis Rally it was started by a group of bikers that couldn't make it to the "Sturgis Bike Week".

Just looked at the Rapid City, SD local newspaper. They will be having an article Sunday on how they (Sturgis) wants to go beyond the Motorcycle Rally, whatever that means. Should be interesting reading. Maybe somebody living in the area can enlighten the rest of us after it is published this Sunday ((23 March).

Attendance at the Sturgis SD rally has been fallingin recent years. I fail to see the logic in this suit.SD rally organizers should use their money to promote the event, not pay lawyers. The lawsuit will only servetoalienatebikers who attend both rallies.

I would not normally quote William Shakespeare on a HD site but:

"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers". - (Act IV, Scene II).

I have plans to never visit Sturgis SD for the rally. I get asked all the time by non-riders if I've ever been to "Sturgis," as if that is the benchmark for being a rider. I ride my miles where I live, and sometimes beyond. The last thing I want to do is end up where everybody else ends up.

Then for that little town to want to sue another little town over some BS like this just makes me want topack my bike and ride straight to Sturgis...KY.

God I wish spring would get here so I could walk past my computer, get on my bike and just go ride.

I've been to the Sturgis, SD rally a couple times. I doubt I'll return, but if I do, I'll go the week before the rally to avoid the crowds.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard today (but the day is still young).

The lawsuit makes no sense to me and it's just plain unfair, considering that the Sturgis, KY is making use of its own name. And because it makes no sense, Sturgis, SD is sure to prevail in the lawsuit. Just my prediction.

If the two places weren't 1800 miles apart I might say they had a leg to stand on, but come on. It's just not realistic for some people to take the time off work and ride or transport their bikes that far and pay over priced hotel and food for an entire week. Some folks are doing really good justto have a motorcycle at all,not to mention thosewho are really lucky and have a Harley. Little Sturgis is a lot more feasible destination for anyone living in this region so a few (20k vs 500k+) get together and party in the name of the freedom that the original rally signifies. It's not like the half million people who show up and few million others who wanted to go but couldn't are suddenly goingstop going to the realrally and come to Kentucky instead. I rode through Sturgis, ND the last day of the rally a few years and I can see where that's the only thing the place has going for it. I bet most people who live near there hate the rally but they're not going to give up that money, they'll suck it up - and sue if they have to. Plus, how many more people could they pack into a dinky little place like that anyway?
