there is the chance, as the new bikes with bigger engines come out, the previous models are "less desireable" the TC88 made the EVO yesterday's news, as the EVO did the Shovel.... not the TC 96 and the 6 speed trans is "the thing"

I've seen for YEARS most of the bikes being sold, at any given time are "low mileage bikes" whether HD, metric, cruiser, sportbike WHATEVER..... the bikes out there being riden... are staying put.... they ones sitting in the garage.... get sold.... some at cut rate prices, others try to get MSRP plus for their 3 year old bike.....

me??? when I'm done with a bike, if any dealer will give me kbb or nada I smile and take it.....becauseI ride em hard, and put them up wet....

Man just a year or so ago you couldn't find a bike (Harley of course) for under 12000 for anything newer then a 2000. Now I see bikes for under 10,000. In my local paper there's an 04 fxst for 9800 bucks with 2400 miles.
I bought my bike for cheap and was sure it would hold it's value...Do you think it's all of the rubs not thinking its cool to have anymore and just dumping them ?
I'm bitching because I want to sell mine and get a bagger.I'm not giving it away though.
Have never known them to hold their value, especially since they are so over priced to begin with. Kind of hard to hold an imaginany over inflated value. My dealer told me 2 weeks ago when I wanted to sell it back to himmy bike lost 25% out the door and will lose another 15-25% over the next 2 years. So expect a 2 year old bike to be valued at 50-65% of original cost, that's trade value of course coming from a dealer....private sale will be a bit higher but certainly nowhere close to original cost. The only way to get a decent return on your investment is to holdon to the bike until inflation does it's thing, which is many many years. Thus "holding their value" has never held up.

What am I missing here? You bought it cheap, but now you don't want to sell it cheap? It's a ****** motorcycle........they depreciate in value.

Well said. A new Ultra Classic has a $4800 markup, so there is no reason for a dealer to pay more for a used current year bike, than he can buy a brand new one for. Plus he can put the new one on his floor plan.........he has to pay cash for the used one.

Buy em to ride and have fun, everything costs money. For me a Harley is money well spent. Everyone I ride with eats, lives and sleeps HD. It's a great bunch of people. We all play dress up and ride our pride and joy whenever we can. If I sell, I plan on getting what I can but not what I paid for it. Ride on, be safe...

Its because of all those dealer catoring to all those customers coming in beleivking their at a car dealer. everyone who saved that 500 up front has cost us all thousands down the road. Your honestly almost better off goingout and buying a KIA for they arent to far behind in depreciation anymore. and youll have less people to wave too. but the good news is that the TC 88 will be like the old small block chevyengines and partswillbe cheap and easy tofind for the nexthalf century. 9800 dollars and you can get yourself some real nice equipment to ride.

I just sold my sweet 2000 Fatboy for $9600.
Besides the economy.....and people not buying.......there is an engine called the 96 inch.
88's are old news, seems to be.
Why buy a eight year 88CI for 12 thou when you can get a BRAND new 96INCH W/SIX SPEED for 15K (saw a Road Glide for 14k).
PRICES RISE AND FALL.......
