This happened a bunch around me last summer. People decide they need a bike after years of never riding, run out and buy one.No license or training needed to buy. If they make it out of the dealership, the counterstearing on highway seems to get many new riders. To not wear a helmet as new rider...you got to give him credit, he has balz.
Man Ive been buying bikes there since 1984.Great shopand am sorry to hear of the accident. The dealer is on a busy 4 lane road with a pretty quick speed limit(as if anyone follows it anyways)The lot is a good size but is usually full of cars and bikes, not really the place for a test ride.
Like the majority of people here,I have to agree when your numbers up its lights out.No helmet in the world will save ya.
My condolences to his family and friends.
That's why I had mine delivered so I could practice in my little couldesac.
I had mine delivered too. My dealer is located on a busy street in the city, and I didn't feel confident enough to ride it home, especially after being away from riding for 20 years. I live on a quiet street, and it was one helluva thrill the first time I pulled out on the street.

Inexperienced riders should definately take a motorcycle safety course before thay begin riding. I've seen several BAD wrecks involving inexperienced riders attempting to leave a dealership with their new bikes. In all of the cases that I've witnessed first hand the riders were either new or haven't been on a bike for 20-30 years and were shaking and nervous wrecks when they were first taking off from the dealership. One guy killed the motor first, then started the bike back up and gave it full throttle, dumped the clutch and lost control of his new Dyna T-Sport and ran it into a parked tandem axle trailer that was parked along the side of the parking lot resulting in a broken leg and thousands of dollars in damageto his new ride. Another inexperienced rider came to a dealership where I was at and picked outand purchased a used Sportster that had every performance upgrade you could imagine performed on it. The guy was trembling when he took off, and only made it about 25-30 feet before he had the bike upside down inthe ditch. My heart goes out to the family of the 56 year old that lost his life leaving the dealership. It' so sad and could have easily been prevented. If you know of any inexperienced riders or riders that have "rusty" riding skills, please try talking them into a motorcycle safety course-it could save their life!
Without placing blame on anyone, I wonder if the hot to trot salesman even consider the buyer's ability when handing a bike over, but I doubt it. Even it it's obvious, I'm sure their azz is covered, and the buyer assumes responsibility, even if the buyer is over his head. I'm all for personal responsibility, but I hate to see people get fooked because of their own limitations.
