jerseyjeff,
I use a garmin streetpilot 2720. It's small, it does EVERYTHINGand it is waterproof.
It's a discontiuned model but you may still find one and Garmin supports the unit.I updated the maps this year.
Ram makes nice a m/c mount
and you can get a cord if you want voice commands. I got the cord but haven'd had
need for voice commands. It's very easy to plug in in directly. I used my battery tender plug.
When it was current it sold for around $1100. Discontinued, I paid $350, I think.
Garmin Zumo 550. Works great in both car and with motorcycle. Great features and love the software for creating routes. Designed to work both in car and outdoors.
I use a Mio280+ in the car and on my streetbob, when the wether"s a bit iffy I put it intoplastic bag with the zip on, stick it to speedo, never had any probs. Carpe Dieam.
I was going to buy a Garmin Zumo 550 for an upcoming trip. Have read a lot, but was waiting for price to drop. Was 799 a month or so ago and now back up to 899. In my reading up on it looksthat it does not have a speaker for use on the bike, that you need to use a headset. Is that true??? And does it have to be hardwired or can you use a DC adapter in the cigarette lighter. My mechanical skills are weak and don't really want to hard wire it.
Thanks

I bought the 550. with the Bike mouont you'll need to hardwire or run off the battery. The auto mount allows for the Cig lighter. I bought it at GPS City http://www.gpscity.com/authorized Garmin dealer. I ran a 3.5 cord into the radio.

I bought a refurbished Garmin Quest 2 (same thing that HD sells). It is waterproof and doesn't cost nearly as much as the Zumo models. You'll have to ask yourself what functions you want from it. I wanted simple directions and information on where gas stations/eateries and so forth are.
