When I balked at what I considered a high rate from Eaglemark(I havereally goodcredit and am used to getting a good rate) the credit manager at the Harley dealer found me a loan for 2 points less at a local bank. My payment dropped from $290 to $255. This guy was very helpful. I'm sure they aren't supposed to steer the customer somewhere else for a loan.
I have a 780 credit score, but HD was firm at 6-7% for 60 months. I decided to use my line of credit at 4.5% and also take the tax deduction on the interest.HD did do so promo rates before at 3-5% and they did 1.05% for 36 months on the copper top bikes.
ORIGINAL: skiahh
When I asked why the rate was so high, they said, essentially, "well, since you want a short term and are putting so much down, we won't make much money on you, so we charge a higher rate." I asked again because I couldn't believe I had just heard that and they repeated it.
This is a bit odd. I went in when they had their 2.99% rates on 2007 models and what was strange there was that, in order to get that rate, you had to get a 3 year loan. They essentially went up 1% for every year past that. I also traded in a motorcycle, so that was 1/3 down as well.
My dealer financed me through MB Financial. I have a high credit score and put 1/3 down on the bike. I got a rate of 6.9% for 48 months but will have the bike paid off in 2 years.
I woudn't give eaglemark the time of day. My credit isn't the greatest but isn't real bad either. Been to 3 dealers, all of them said NO, one of them didn't even try. That guy doesn't even work there anymore.
So I bought mine used from an indy shop. And I think it's better that any of the new bikes anyway.
