Default Leather H-D jacket

My wife is planning to get me a leather Harley jacket for my birthday. I normally do not like to advertise anything, but I love my Harley and wont mind a Harley Sign on my back. My question is more over fit and comfort. I am a tall guy @ about 6'3" and have a bit of a gut (ha ha). Normally, I wear XXL shirts and stuff, but I was trying on jackets at the local Harley Dealer and I thought it felt a little small. Unfortunatly, they didn't have any other models in XXL that I could try on for comparison and they said they didn't carry anything in tall sizes, and that it was special order for tall sizes. She will most likely buy off of ebay, so I would like to know if there is much difference between the different sizes or not. In other words: Does all H-D Leather jackets run small?

Also, what models are recommended for summer or even all weather riding. Post up what you wear and what you think.

I've been trying them on for a couple of months now...trying to figure out which one i want to buy. Want to be really sure before I plunk down over $400. I'm 6'6" and about 255. I thought I would need a tall size, but I don't think I do. The bad part about it is that my local dealer will special order one for me, but if it doesn't fit when it comes in, they will not let me return it because it was a "special order". Now WTF is up with that???? They actually did have one jacket in a tall size on hand. But when I tried it on, It just confused me even more because, it was actually too long on me, and it was a style I didn't like anyway....jeez!

So....is this confusing enough for you? It sure is for me... All I can tell you is this, in most of the styles I would have thought I would have needed a 3XL like my shirt size. I found thatevery oneof the styles I tried onwere too big in that size and a couple were too big and too short. What's weird is that the "independence" style seems to fit me perfectly in a2XLwhen most of the others weretoo small. I think I'm going with it.

Good luck!

On a good note. The dealer I talked to did say that if they ordered it and I didn't like it, that they wouldn't make me keep it.

I just don't really want to spend $3-400 on a jacket, when I can buy a used one.

The stealership jackets are made in China or Pakistan. Why not wear some made in the USA leather while riding that made in the USA Harley. Fox Creek, Kerr, Schott. They all have extra large sizes.

Just for common knowledge when buying ridng Jackets. Always try and buy a size larger then you wear. Most of the time the size is correct and will fit good if you are wearing a t-shirt or what not, but most of the time you don't do that. Sweatshirt, Hoodie, long sleave shirt, Wallet, Cell Phone, Cigs, etc......... That size that normaly fits you get real tight after you start adding personal items!

Don't buy anything that doesn't allow some room underneath for extra clothing, and have long enough sleeves to reach for the bars without giving up too much sleeve. Without those 2 requirements met you don't have a real riding jacket. Other nice to have features are reflective stiching, under arm zip open vents...etc.

I have tried on many HD jackets.Of course the medium is too tight and the large has too long of sleeves[:@].But it has saved me $400
