Decisions...decisions
I have one of each although my Softail is a Heritage which is pretty much the same as a Deluxe. I like them both equally and they're very different. Assuming you can't afford both, sit on each, test ride each, look at each, and decide which one you like better. I will say this, I've been riding the Heritage for a month almost and I've already gotten 4 comments about how great it looks. I don't get any compliments on the RK. The RK has a slightly better ride, it corners better also because the Heritage is lower and the floor boards drag more easily on turns. The Heritage is a better cruiser. The RK is a better long ride bike.

Ok so I am looking to get my first bike.
I am totally torn between a Softail Deluxe and Road King.
Everyone says the Softtail is easier to ride and the Road King is more comfortable.
What do you guys think, hopefully some of you have ridden both.
I own both...My wife rides the Deluxe and the RK Custom is mine. I have ridden the Deluxe on a few ocassions and I would not trade my RK in on one. It fits her well.
Accessories - readily available for the RK (ie. backrest). Try to find one for a Deluxe (Corbin $700.00).
RK - shake at idle, smooth at highway speeds. (75-80 mph)
Deluxe - smooth at idle, not as smooth at highway speeds.
How big are you? I,m 6'0" and the Deluxe is just to small.
What kind of riding are you gonna do? Touring, Road King, no doubts. Around town bar hopping, commuting to work, the Deluxe will be fine.
I love my Cruise Control..can't do on the softail...etc.
As stated, Sit on them, rent one of each and pick the one YOU are most comfortable with...
There is some good advice here... Take your time and decide what purpose you will use the bike for (long trips, cruising around town, etc.) and buy one (or both). You cannot go wrong with either bike.
Rent.....
Ride......
Then decide!!
Worth the price!!
