I have often wondered, why the hell did the MC companies ever take the kick starters off of motorcycles?
Battery problems, electrical problems, starter problems etc..
Wouldn't it have been smarter to just keep them on bikes for emergencies???
I never understood it. Anyone got a good answer for this?

The way I understand it,a kicker wont spin it fast enough for F.I. and with the electronics you have to have 85% or more battery power to make everything work.Something about spinning it fast enough to get all the sensors working.Five speed carbed models you could probly go back to points and get a kicker for them,but six speeds an F.I. no way that I know of.

I for one hated to see the kick go away. so I bought the rev tec kick start kit and put it on my 01 injected police electra glide. the only mod was to the exhaust. It kicks off with no problems. just in case starter goes out I can still ride. I have often left the switch on till the battery was to low to electric start and had to push it off. don't know if it will kick off that low of bat, but one day I am sure to find out.

I spent twenty years kick starting bikes,tearing up my right boot sole,wearing out my knee, getting thrown over the handlebars. I don't miss them at all. If all harley made was bikes with kick-starters I would be looking for an after market electric starter kit. any one misses kick starters I would guessnever had to use them on a big displacement bike on a cold morning.

any one misses kick starters I would guessnever had to use them on a big displacement bike on a cold morning.
I used mine a LOT on my old shovels and Evos, but I had an S&S Super B (very simple carb) and points on all my bikes (yes, even the Evo) and could tune it so it'd fire right up. I shudder at the though of kicking my injected, electronic ig'd TC 96.
Thank God for cellphones.
