My wife has worked for HD for the last two years and loved it, made decent money too. The only reason she quit is because we are being transfered. Unfortunately the dealerships where we are moving to dont have any immediate openings, so she probably wont be contiuing her career with HD. At least not until we move back home.

I've wanted to work at a dealership mainly because I love motorcycle so much. What would it take for me to sell bikes? Sorry for stealing the thread a little.
I sold Hondas part time during my college years. Every year about this time, I wish I could take time off from my regular gig and sell bikes. A good sales person can make lots of coin inthe spring. Product knowledge isimportant. However, what's more important is goodpeople skills and the ability to sell--i.e., listening and identifyingthe customer's needs, analyzing what you have to offer, presenting a solution, and closing the sale.

I know you've all been waiting for this, "No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express".

I have worked on a harley store but never worked for harley. had to make a service call apparently one of there wrenches thought he was an electrician and could install the new motor for there air compressor . they dont run very well backwards and I had to go fix it .
when I handed them the bill the look on there face was priceless . I was working on a new home construction and when they called I had to leave that job and drive an hour to get there so I charged them for the travel from where I was working and for the time to get back plus 60.00 an hour for labor , which they about crapped there pants until I pointed out there shop rate of 65.00 an hour and offered to charge them the same as they charge me.

Working in what is essentially your hobby is often a very dissappointing experience. I thought I wanted to fly for a living. So I started working part-time in local FBOs to pay for my Instrument Rating. Every FBO owner I ever worked for was crooked as a fekkin cobra on crank and a pure BEEYATCH to work for. Then when I finally started flying as an FO in King Airs ... I found that getting up at 4:00AM to fly to bumf#ck Ohio and sit around all day eating popcorn and reading Aviation mags, never knowing whether or not the rich guy was even going to come back home that day, and cleaning all the crackers and drink cans out of the plane when he finally did decide to come back, all for about half what I was making in the IT industry ... well, like I said: working in what is your hobby sometimes ain't all it's cracked up to be. [:'(]

It does sound intoxicating (didI just use that word?) to work at a dealership. Then you think about all those good weekend rides your customers are enjoying while you're stuck at work...

Like Snakum, your dream is often a harsh reality.

Worked at a Harley Dealership for almost 2 years in the early 90's.

Had a great time.
