Being ex Navy, I prefer calling it the PORT or STARBOARD side.
PORT = Left = kickstand side
STARBOARD = Right = carburater side
FORE = Front = headlight side
AFT = Rear = sissybar side[sm=icon_rock.gif]

Left is opposite side of right. Unless you left your bike on the right side of the road which would be the wrong side for it to be left on right? This of course assumes you are not in the UK where the right side of the road is on the left and the left side of the road is on the right side which is the right side of the road to be on if you need to turn left. Ok......right!
