Default moving to CA - mod requirements

Anyone buy bike from another state and move to CA? If so, what did you have to do to the bike upon arrival/registration in CA? Did you have to add any EPA crap, canister, etc.? Or is the bike exempt as it was purchased outside CA? Do they check your emissions upon registration? How about pipes, I know they are cracking down, but do they check for EPA compliance, i.e. the little sticker from HD stating EPA compliant, or do they put a decibel-meter up to them? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Youshould be able toget info at the State of California's website.
There are no smoginspections on bikes here. There could be a VIN number verification.
There could be a non Ca. smogged vehicle fee on top of the regisstration fee.

Nothing to worry about. There is no longer an extra fee for bringing a vehicle with you. Check out www.dmv.ca.gov for all the info. Bikes are exempt from emissions testing, too, so you're okay there.

What part ofour Socialist Workers Paradise are you moving to?

It will need to be inspected by CHP I believe. But I ahve also heard you can have it inspected at AAA. AAA is easier and quicker and someone I know slipped a bike with less than 7500 miles by the inspector. Supposedly you are supposed to ahve 7500 miles on it to register it here.

First of all. sorry that you have to move here. Second, JBT is correct, no problems registering your bike.

You will have to get the emissions checked but they take into account that your equipment is setup for another state and not California.

I used to live in the People's Republic of California...Sacramento area. Emmision standards are different there than the rest of this great nation. Now, I believe that all vehilcles on the CA highways are required to run on sunshine and emit flowers. Good luck with that.

You could always change your mind and move to Arizona. The bikes there run on bullshit.
