I have had a motorcycle license for 35 years, but when I went and renewed it this last time I thought I had walked into the immigration office. There where people from all over the map trying to get their license.A chinese lady wanted an interpretor to take the written test and I watched 4 people in a row get turned down for no insurance verification. This was after this lady that worked there yelled it out loud about this requirement and it was posted all over the place.I forget how much I paid because I just pulled out cash, got it and hit the door.Once I got outside I started laughing my *** off.It was the ultimate three ring circus.
Jim, you better check your license to make sure they didn't drop the M. When did the fee double? I, along with other members of ABATE of Illinois pushed the $5.00 class L&M fee to help fund rider education programs many years ago. Unfortunately, Go-Blow-A-B---- keeps raiding the fund for other purposes. We keep winning court orders against him, but he keeps trying.

Went to the DMV for a DL renewal today, just an eye test and a few bucks NBD, but it always erkks me that they charge 10 bucks extra to keep my "M" endorcement.
Thats Illinois, How about your State?
I renewed last year in Illinois and didn't pay extra for the MC endorsement. Did Blagojevich find yet another opportunity to tax us?
We used to change the lyrics of Life's been good to reflect all the DP's getting their licenses that way!!! "I geef George Ryan 2 tousant ant five, he sell me liceness now I'm go drrife! Excerpt from "Life make fun from me so far" by Vaclav Gaddoowitit.

I bought a CDL in Illinois from the last governor, but the motorcycle endorsementdidn't cost me extra that I remember, but it may have been throw in for free as a thank you.
$28 in California. We are one of the most taxed and pay some of the most fees in the nation. Ridiculous. I guess we are paying for mother nature/good weather.
Tell me about it! That is why I keep my bikes, cars, and drivers license with Michigan. Still have a house there, so I will take advantage of the lower fees as much as I can.
I'm in Illinois and never paid extra before.
If they added a $10 fee for the privaledge of riding it won't surprise me worth every cent.
I'm due to renew in August so I'll find out then.
I did notice that the plate on my wife's bike cost a few $$ more to renew this year because she has a personalized plate.
Probably see the same on her cage.
You're absolutely right. Now they added a fee increase for personalized plate renewal, used to be you put one number along with the letters and only the metal plate manufacture was extra. Now the renewals are more too. True vanity plate renewals are still higher.

I guess the time has passed more quickly than I realized. I renewed in 2005 and my "M" endorsement is still there. I may have just missed the extra "fee", they slip these things by me all the time.
Your push for the $5.00 fee to fund education may have been well intended but in this crooked state that never works and it ends up being just another tax that keeps going up and up, especially with this moron we have in office now. I would rather pay my own way than have the state provide it. It is like their "pilot license registration fee" of $10.00 that I have to pay to Illinois so I can continue to make a living. Even though I am employed and fly out of Missouri, if I EVER land in Illinois and don't have the fee paid, I can be prosecuted. Every year they send me a useless map and book of Illinois airports which I return to them. If I flew for a major airline I would be exempt.

It's yet another example of why we don't want the politicians to control any more than they already do. Without the self-imposed tax, IDOT MSF courses would have virtually disappeared. You know they wouldn't push $300+ private rider's ed, they would just mandate helmets followed by watching the increase in motorcycle crashes and find the "contraptions" to be unsafe and ban them altogether.
