1. In most states (I know ... it varies), is it illegal for anyone to possess body armor in the form of BP vests or kevlar plates sewn into a leather vest? Or is it illegal only for convicted felons?
2. In states where it is illegal for any person to possess, is it a felony or a misdemeanor?
3. Ever popped someone for wearing one?
Just curious. This is all I could find, and it doesn't say what municipality or state ...
"Unlawful use of body vests
1.Unlawful use of body vests. A person is guilty of a crime if he uses or wears a body vest while engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit, or flight after committing or attempting to commit murder, manslaughter, robbery, sexual assault, burglary, kidnapping, criminal escape or assault under N.J.S.2C:12-1b. Use or wearing a body vest while engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit, or flight after committing or attempting to commit a crime of the first degree is a crime of the second degree. Otherwise it is a crime of the third degree.
As used in this section, “body vest†means bullet-resistant body armor which is intended to provide ballistic and trauma protection."
Many jurisdictions will only sell you body armor "face to face" (meaning they won't ship it to anyone other than LEO's, etc.), but there are many places where it can be ordered on-line just like anything else.
Far as I know body armor can be worn by anyone, with the exceptions of those that are convicted felons.
Ah yes, the infamous Red Man suit. I got the **** kicked out of me at the State Police Academy back in 88 wearing one of those damn things.

LoL, yeah, I can imagine....
I've had LEO's that I know tell me the exact same thing.... I imagine those things are restrictive as heck while trying to move quickly when someone is beating on you...

I was so worried about hunting on public land in Md, I used to wear mine while hunting. Kept me warm too. Think more of wearing it now than when I was in harms way.

Supposedly, armor is illegal for a civilian to possess in some states, regardless of conviction status. But no one in my circle has been able to tell me which states, or able to say for sure. I think they're just guessing. Looks like it is legal to own/wear except in the comission of a crime or by convicted felons in any US state or territory.
I dunno if the fit and feel hasimproved since I wore one for Uncle Sam, but they were damn uncomfortable back then. [:'(]

Do a Google on who the current manufacturers of body armor are. E-mail the bunch of them with this question. They will know on an up-to-date basis. My body armor was made by Second Chance of Michigan, but they are out of business and some new firm is in their place. ............ BC
