Default Lowered Fatboy

My favorite HD is the Fatboy. But I'm 5'7" tall with a 29" inseam, so I've been looking at Sportsters, Lowriders, and Deluxes. I couldn't sit flat footed on a Fatboy, and the seat seemed too wide. But today I was in a dealer who took a brand new 2008 Fatboy and lowered the front fork (different springs) and the rear shocks, and put a Badlander seat on it. It was great. Fit me like a glove. I think when they were done with it it was even lower than the Lowrider and Sportsters.

My question is - Does this sort of modification do anything to the ride? Do I have to worry about lower ground clearance?

Thanks,
Mike

I don't think high centering it is a realistic concern unless you're going rock climbing on it. Maybe an outrageous chopper, but not a bike with a normal wheel base. We lowered my wife's sportster. I like the feel. I sorta wish we had of lowered it when it was still mine. Lowered means a lower center of gravity which means more stable. The downside is you can't lean as far and you have to lean more on a curve. Nothing radical, you aren't going to drag metal taking it easy through a curve. It's not enough to be an issue to most harley riders.

You won't have a problem if you keep the stock exhaust, my bike is lowered with LongShots and they will make contact on hard right turns, I get a little scrape on hard left turns too. As long as you use common sense you will be fine. Dinger has a lowered Fatboy as well, maybe he will see this thread and respond. His bike is really good looking , makes me not even want to ride mine.

I had an '02 fatboy that had the HD lowering kit on the front, the Ness kit on the rear and the stock seat. I'm 5'3, 27" inseam and could flatfoot the bike. I never had any clearance problems and only occasionally bottomed over big bumps when we were two-up. I weigh 135 lbs and the wife is the same.

My old fat boy was lowered two inches in the front and three in the rear I added a mustang gunfighter seat and it felt great!!!!!!
The biggest problem was scrapping the floorboards all the time while turning also if I hit any holes on the road it would bottom out hard like if it had no suspension.....
