Default laydown plate mount mod, total cost=$0

didnt want to pay for a laydown plate mount so i just removed my stock tag mount and bent it back in a vice to lay flush with the fender. worked great. i also removed the reflector and moved the plate down on the mount soyou cant see the mount at all. took about 1/2 hour to do the whole job.

here are some shots of it.

i drilled a hole in the middle of the mount so i could get a screwdriveronthetop mount boltfor tightening otherwise it will just spin.

the profile is nice and low now.

Very cool. I really like hearing people doing things to their bikes that are low/no cost!

Been there, done that. I found that the hardest part was tightening the fastners that hold it to the fender. I ended up using a large flathead screw to wedge the top of the bolt while tightening the nut underneath. It's not going to be fun to try and get it off.

Nice job. I hope HD doesn't sue you for cheating them out of a chrome sale.

Nice job. I would bend it to match the curve of the fender as well.

Very nice.
I did something similar, but used a telephone pole to introduce a little radius to the mount and the license plate. I also used rubber grommets in the fender mount holes (with through-bolts and washersto fender/bracket) tokeep it (the bracket) off the paint. Been on there for about 2,800 miles and the chrome hasn't cracked on the license plate frame.

Good job. Check it out at night before you take off riding though. My plate is in just about the same position as yours...and the stock light doesn't illuminate the plate at all. I bought an LED light strip and put it on the license plate frame...you can also put LED bolts like one of the other posts shows.
