Start by spraying the engine/tranny/primary/wheels with S100, soap everything with Mr clean autodry soap, rinse off the soap and S100. Soak my mitt with the Autodry soap and wash......rinse the mitt often! When I get done......blow dry with leaf blower.....then a coat of pure brazilian carnuba wax...
The only exception I would take on the method you described is the use of dishwashing liquid. That is specifically designed to cut grease and, with regard to painted surfaces, also cuts any wax you have previously applied. The use of dishwashing liquid is only suggested when you want to strip the wax and then use some kind of polish to be applied directly to the clear coat. Be sure to finish with a good coat of wax.
I rarely use soap and water, lately I have been using the BOM spray it on a damp cloth polish to a incredible shine with another. I have a black bike so its a never ending job keeping it clean. Alot of people think you will scratch your bike cleaning it this way, but it doesn't seem too and only takes minutes.
I take mine to the dealer when it is really messy...they are decent about having a newbie employee/parts chaser wash and dry them for you if you sweet talk them (and I have dropped enough Benjamens in the place...they ought to!)...some will, some won;t...if they aren't too busy, they can crank it out in 30 minutes....just ask.
My butt puckered when I read this! Very very bad for the finished surfaces and it WILL strip the wax! Do yourself a favor and get a Mr. Clean wash system like a lot of use have!
I have been washing my fatboy like a car for about 3 years. Today is the first time I have WASHED the ultra. I have been just wiping it down and polishing. Got caught in the rain on Sunday, had to give her a good clean. I was worried about the inner fairing electronics and there are so many more painted areas. I spent 2 hours. Too much time to spend during prime riding season. I need a quicker way to have more riding time. any suggestions?
