I have a 76 shovel that doesn't have a filter, I just saved on buying a oil filter set up, and I even saved money on my motorcycle insurances!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oil gets chemical contamination from the combustion of gasoline. \\; The acids build up and are corrosive to metal. \\; Go with the manufacturers reccomended time. \\; Even if you use synthetic oil. \\; Systhetic oils are oil that the molecules have been modified to have uniform particle size which promotes less friction. \\; It doesn't combate the contaminates any more than regular oil.
I never heard this one before but I will say this....oil does not deteriorate. It becomes dirty and needs filtered, amounts become less because of leaks and burning off. But it does not deteriorate. You could actually never change your oil again, as long as you maintained a new filter and kept it full. One example is the engine rooms of U.S. ships, the oil is never changed unless there is some part failure and the oil becomes contaminated. They change filters and add as needed and those engines have millions of hours on them.
Few years ago had an old, old friend buy a new car. Ford Pinto four cyclinder. Somehow he got the idea that it wasnt necessary to change the oil in it. Just added some as needed. 50,000 miles later the old pinto got a new motor. He was really mystified as to why the engine threw a rod. I think at the time he was in the neighborhood of 70 years old. Wisdom doesnt allways come with age.
From this forum, I have learned that frequent oil changes shorten engine life. Engine wear decreases as oil ages.
 \\;\\\\\\;
Yet, most on this forum still believe that changing oil often is protecting their engine.
 \\;\\\\\\;
Are you one of those that changes your oil more frequently than 5,000 miles?
 \\;\\\\\\;
No one needs to change synthetic more often than every 10,000 miles, but do you?
 \\;
Well....Do you?
