RE: Jus wondering....Who parks their scoot in neutral?
ORIGINAL: sweet07
I ALWAYS do. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I really don't like the idea of "stress" on my engine. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\ \;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Just something my uncle taught me long ago. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Along with using your front brake when going downhill on a dirtbike. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\;
Stress? What "Stress". DO you actually think that having your bike sit on a gear through the drivetrain is anywhere near what 90+ foot-lbs of torque does to the drivetrain everytime you pull \\;out in first gear? I'll tell you what stress is... \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; parking your scooter in neutral and have a slight "nudge" from a passing goofball send the whole thing over on its side.
Now that's stress!
 \\;\\\\\\;
Park it in gear...same for your car. My uncle told me lots of stuff that wasn't true, like invest heavily in Enron....
RE: Jus wondering....Who parks their scoot in neutral?
The only time my bike is parked in neutral is in my garage. The advantage of always leaving it in gear, is that you wont forget to leave it in gear, if you have to park on an incline. I put it in neutral when I start the engine.

RE: Jus wondering....Who parks their scoot in neutral?
Stress? \\; I support the viewpoint that all this stuff about starting and leaving in neutral is just a personal preference. \\; So what if it slightly moves when I start it in gear? \\; I've got \\;hold of it and it's not going anywhere. \\; Who ever heard of leaving a standard shift car in neutral or even \\;moving to neutral to start it. \\; I am convinced it does no harm. \\; I prefer to leave mine in first gear, since I don't have an emergency or parking brake. \\; I don't want it going anywhere, especially horizontal. \\; For those of you that swear it is better to leave and start in neutral, \\;that's \\;okay. \\; Please, no flameouts. \\; You won't change my mind and I \\;don't care to change yours. \\; Thank you. \\; \\;
RE: Jus wondering....Who parks their scoot in neutral?
I always park in neutral unless its on a hill.
 \\;
I had a bad experience with it parked in gear once. BTW it will start without the clutch pulled in.
 \\;
Dont ask how I know this.

RE: Jus wondering....Who parks their scoot in neutral?
I always put mine in neutral when I park it. \\; I read in the owner's manual that I shouldn't shift gears while the bike is not running, not sure if it would actually hurt anything.
RE: Jus wondering....Who parks their scoot in neutral?
 \\; Not too many hill's to roll down in Illinois. \\; They came out with this new thing last week called a jiffy stand. \\; It's pretty cool. \\; It locks when the bike is on it's side so the "domino" effect????? can't happen. \\; Metric riders have always been known to park theirs in gear because they don't have the Jiffy stand. \\; Besides, leaving it in neutral like said earlier IS less stress on you engine. \\; A compression sroke isn't that violent, compared to parking.

I always park mine in gear. \\; It makes me remember to put it in nuetral before thumbing the button. \\; I've witnessed \\;far to many people start their bike in gear B/C they " usually " leave it in nuetral and they forgot.
