I know about The Dragon. Who doesn't? I never heard of The Snake though. I found the sumbitch by accident yesterday. I got on 421 in Lexington Ky and rode the twisty **** to Sanford NC. I have the iron butt and a loose screw... riding a stock nightster through the mountains like that. Loaded with camping gear etc.
I saw a blue-million bikes at the general store in shadey valley. Didn't think anything of it.
I noticed several folks in the parking lot of the store pointing at me. I didn't think much of this since people are always pointing at my bike (its the whitewalls).
I saw a small sign about dragons and motorcycles and didn't think anything of it either.
The big yellow sign that says CONSIDER ALTERNATE ROUTE NOW was a little alarming but I wanted to get to boone nc and find a place to crash.
My wrists were destroyed. I've never shifted/brakes so much in 12 miles. Was I ever glad to get off that mountain.
The good news is there are no coal trucks like up at Harlan KY.
If you can get out that way, give it a go. Its mucho funo.
