With the ONLY exception being riders who have been designated as "blockers/road guards" riders are supposed to remain in the position they start in. I've seen riders pull around people to "ride with their buds" but mostly, when you are a charity ride you are faced with some of the worst riders in town.
I avoid most poker runs... I'll show up for registration, make my donation, and either go on about my business or head directly to the end point.
Group riding takes more concentration, and skills \\; than solo or pairs riding.

Yeah, it's crap like that why I stopped doing alot of group rides. \\; Even on PGR rides it's happened almost every ride. \\; I don't mind riding in groups of about 15-20 bikes, but they are usually friends and people I have been riding with for a long time, and we know each others skills (and weaknesses). \\; Riding with a 100+ bikes has gotten pretty scary lately. \\; Before the rides they tell people to STAY IN FORMATION, and there's always some people that feel the rules don't apply to them. \\; On top of that, the recommened the less experienced riders to stay in the middle or back, and of course very few people (especially us men!) want to admit that we are new or not great riders, so you'll get people that don't stick to the formation correctly. \\; It's always annoying when someone doesn't keep to the formation and leaves enough room for a semi to get in between the group!
The most dangerous sight ? \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; A new, zillion dollar "look at me" chopper with a paper tag ! \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; [:-]
I vote for a chick with new leathers and a wide eyed look on an 883.

LOL! \\; I hope you're not pointing that finger at me from back when. \\;  \\; \\; When my husband and I first started riding, we got invited by friends to ride in several charity rides and I flat out refused to go. \\; Still considered myself too much of a danger to myself and others. \\; I like riding with the group of friends I know and trust\\; charity rides with tons of people of which I know nothing about their ability and skill level, not so much. \\;
The wife and I went on our last "toy run" a couple of years ago. There were 3 motorcycle accidents in the first 15 minutes of the ride. They all seemed to be rider error. We pulled off and had lunch and then went on a nice ride by ourselves. We still do poker runs, but I will never do another "organized" run. I like to know who \\;I am riding with.

Thanks all for the feedback. \\; I will probably stick to mostly riding with friends who are accustomed to riding together or hang in the back of the pack on larger rides \\;like one of my buddies who always \\;says: "somebody's got to live to tell it".
My wife and I are backing away from HOG rides for this very reason. I just do not feel safe with inexperienced riders all packed together with the ones that actually know how to ride. It just ain't worth it to me any more. My wife and I are fairly high-mileage riders so I don't think skipping those 40-50 mile rides will hurt me much any way.
