Something wrong because the reserve tank is just the bottom of the same tank. All you are doing is switching the petcock to pull from the botom of the tank. Either you were already running on reserve and switched it to the normal position accidentally, or the petcock is broken, or you have a whole mess of water in the tank.
Did you pull the fuel line to see if anything is coming out at all?

yeah could have been in off was runnin about 65 it stalled i just reached down and turned to what i thought was reserve, its always worked in the past but it was cool VDOT was behind me within 2 or 3 minutes with a free gallon of gas

You either flipped it the wrong way or the pick up screen is plugged with trash which is lower than where you normally pick up gas. Not sure about the pick up tube theory. Sounds good, I never looked last time I pulled the petcock and changed one out on my Harley. I didn't look . Changed it over a diaphragm leak. One long screen not sure of tubes. Got one outside in the parts bin and I could remove the screen and look but I am too lazy today. Trash and sediment gather at the bottom of the screen.
