Over here in Sweden most riders wave as well. But I noticed that in UK (England & Scotland) most riders moves the head from one side to the other. First time I thought they signaled 'hey, dont wave' but after a while I noticed that this seems to the way they 'wave'
Any from UK that can confirm?
I think some of the harder core bike guys see a lot of bikes as RUBs and recognize no brotherhood with them. The scooter crowd is probably somewhat intimidated. The crotch rocket guys... well, I have no idea where their heads are at.
That being said, I still wave at 'em all. Sometimes I get a response, sometimes not. Maybe simply because I'm on a Harley, I seldom see another Harley rider fail to wave. I think I surprise the scooter guys when I do so they're not prepared.
I always wave, even to motor officers, and most of the time I get a return wave. I've noticed that in town I get less returned waves than in the country. I also get very few waves from "bikers;" well they look like hard core bikers anyway. Of course I'm on my Winnabagger with a helmet and maybe they just don't want to associate. Boo-hoo woe is me
I always wave however sometimes when you get a bit tired after the 300th wave of the day, It usually ends up only being a few fingers comming up the left hand grip.
My wife always wonders what is the protocol for ladies on the back. Once in a while the passenger will wave, what do you guys do? my wife does not wave.
Yeah, I try to wave all the time also. I think it's cool and a sign of respect for the other riders out there too. Of course, I hate it when I'm going about 55 or 60 and wave thereby causing my left hand to uncontrollably swing around and hit me in my own a$$.
