Good posts Harley Rulz, TM and 87lowrider.

"I had full intentions of staying out of a debate that cannot be won, but I'm really shocked at how many inconsiderate people here don't care about their neighbors. All I can say is, I'm glad you're not riding down my street annoying me and my family. I like the sound of mild pipes, hate the sound of straight pipes. People that work midnights are another consideration. It is not a God given right to be able to make as much noise as you damn well please. I'd say just use common sense, but it sounds like there are people that just don't give a **** about anyone else in this world. Same guys that have a FTW attitude."

You did imply that anyone with loud pipes is inherently inconsiderate. Definitely a poor assumption to make. Haven't seen anyone here displaying a tendency toward inconsiderate behavior and a FTW mentality. None have so far. I know there are people who don't give a **** about anyone else in this world but I have yet to see them here. Where does THIS anger come from?

I don't remember ever being woken up in the middle of the night by loud pipes but some douche bag up at the store with his bass BS at 2:00am has interrupted my night on many occasions.

Craig, obviously I spoke without being specific enough. There were some previous comments about people not caring if they offend others by making too much noise, or their neighbor is an azzhole, so it's ok if they are loud, etc. I beleive I clarified what I ment in my posts after the one you quoted, and I did not intend to paint with a broad stroke of the brush to include all in that comment. It just pisses me off when anyone says they don't care if they bother others or if they **** off others. Hope that clears it up.

Good enough. Maybe it was misunderstood when people said they don't care what anybody thinks? Personally, I don't really care what anybody thinks of me but I am not going to be rude or disrespectful (much!) because of it. No excuse for that. Which is why I also conduct myself on message boards just as I would in person. Where many take the opportunity to show their asses because of the anonymity of the internet.

Can you say asses on the board? I think that it may not be intentional (sometimes). Without facial expression (except for the smileys) and no inflection in voice it is easy to be misunderstood. IMHO that seems to be the case around here. Right TM?[8D]

DA-YUM are we still talking about this??
The fact is that the dipsh!t who inflicts noise abuse on others by being inconsiderate is almost certainly an *** in everything else he or she does. The problem is no one is attempting to legislate the other crap and impacting others in the process.
Therefore I propose a general APO (anti-***** ordinance), punishable by deportation for repeat offenders. Where do we send 'em?

Now I wasn't specific enough. I was more or less speaking in generalities. I was referring to trolls and cyber badasses. So far I haven't see any of that here. It's rampant on other boards. Having spent a lot of time on other message boards on many subjects and seeing plenty of good and bad, I can say that HDForums is one of the best. Everyone is respectful and the mods keep the trolls at bay. People usually can disagree without being offensive. Good job on everyone's part!

I'll go along with this... Try to treat others the way you want to be treated... Just because they don't treat you well does not mean you have to stoop to their level. And if they don't like you? So what.

I was reading EasyRider last night and they have that add for the "motorcycle lawyers.' The one guy guy has a t-shirt that says, "It is NOT illegal to be a biker"

Honestly... I don't think it is the noise that get's people's knickers in a twist... I think it is just the biker image... And because people think that the general biker is no good they use the loud pipes as a device in the law that they can rally around when they cannot find the biker doing anything else bad.

OMG... A biker... he must have just robbed someone or shot someone... but I didn't see him do it... Oh wait! His pipes are loud! Call a cop! That will get him off the street!

Anyone ever see the movie "Ten Things I Hate About You" ? At the end of the movie the main character makes a comment to her father about where her little sister is. It goes something like this:

Father: Where's your sister?
Daughter: Some bikers just picked her up.... Big Ones.... full of sperm.

(dad was kind of a freak in the movie)

But the point is that the movie innocently used Bikers as what a father should fear the most. (probably not wrong! [sm=badbadbad.gif] )

Whatever... live and let live.

Maybe a lot of truth to that. The other day I was leaving a drug store. Putting on my helmet I noticed a little old lady in the car next to my bike. Then I heard the CLICK of the door locks on her car. Was it something I said?

You are just one of those icky bikers....

So... I have ZERO tattoos... I have not found anything that i really want to keep on my body for the rest of my life (expect my skin). {side note: Apparently the FDA is in the process of approving a new kind of ick that eventually wears away to nothing after 10 years... So for the girlies in High School/college that want to get a Tramp Stamp (I think you can get them at the bookstore now next to the Shakespear) don't have to deal with it by the time they become a soccer mom. Not a bad idea actually... } A buddy of mine was telling me that they make these Nylon type sleves that you can wear and it looks just like skin... The difference being that these are covered in different kinds of "tattoos." I would love to just put those things on and go around town freaking out the locals. =)

The funny thing is... Seems like the "average" HD owner is just a regular Joe working to pay his bills just like everyone else. At least I know I am... I have a 2.5 year old that I love to death and drive to the part in the mini-van and all that... No one locks their doors when they see me in the minivan... Put me on the HOG w/a doorag and everyone gets stupid.

Funny part about all that? Most of the "bikers" I know would give you the shirt off their back. I see more bikers involved in charities than I do "normal" people. Take toys for tots... I think the two largest groups that contribute to that organisation are the Marine Corps and Bikers...Hmm... well... I guess I see the "publics" point... HA HA... Just kidding. Love the Jarheads... and the bikers.

So... yeah... I could care less what other people think about bikers... Has nothing to do with being inconsiderate... Has more to do with other people being stupid and stereotypical.

The voice of reason!![sm=smiley20.gif]
ORIGINAL: Cigar Aggie

You want laws on loud pipes? **** off the wrong people, bring unwanted attention upon yourself, blast your pipes past your local government representative when he is asleep or when he is in a funeral procession, whatever the situation might be. You want to be arrogant, in your face about the issue and you're not going to win any votes. Folks this issue is being heard in local and state governments across the country. There aren't enough of us out there to turn a vote if we have ticked off those who vote. Its not noise to me (music to my ears) but to others it might be a nuissance. Lets be a bit more considerate before we lose the liberty!
