Default Luggage Rack

We're heading out to Sturgis and just installed a luggage rack on our Heritage Classic. The rack says it will only hold 10 pounds. Our packs weigh 33 pounds. Is this going to be a problem? P.S. Does anyone know if we need to take our leather jackets along for cool mornings/evenings or is a sweatshirt enough?

A sweatshirt should be ample. It gets cool in the mornings but not too cool. As for the luggage rack I am not sure.

One thing to make sure to pack are rainsuits. Summer storms pop up out of nowhere in SD.

We got the rain suits. I figure if I get cold enough I could even put the rain suit on as a wind breaker over the sweatshirt if need be. Just trying to find a way to lighten the load up a little. Two leather jackets take up a lot of room and are heavy!

I was stationed out there for two years. Gorgeous area of the country and almost wish we were back out there now.

My fatboy luggage rack has the same 10lb limit. I'm going to change out the soft bolts for some hardened ones in the hopes that any shearing from the plates won't matter. I mean come on, 10lbs is nothing. To call it a luggage rack is a joke if the only thing you can carry is a head of lettuce.

Ive got the Harley luggage rack on mine. My T-bag is the large one and I load that thing until it wants to burst open. Did the same with my 99 and put over twenty thousand on the bike carrying the T-bag. Dont worry, itll handle the weight no problem.

It is the age of lawsuits, it can handle more then 10 pounds, just use common sense.

I think they say that to make sure no one tries to sit on it.
