First off, Great bike Bryan. I can guarantee he'll never forget his first ride on something like that!

Next , The laws around here state that the ones under 18 need to have both feet touching the foot pegs and need to wear proper safety equipment i.e., helmet, jacket, pants, etc.. She meets all those requirements as we've got the now, too small stuff left over from the other 2 kids. the thing about the touching the foot pegs isn't all that clear, meaning it dosen't state where the location of the foot pegs should be. I know a guy who took his 5year old son out because he could touch the pegs on his chopper. I thought that was kinda crazy.

It looks like from your other replies that she meets the moral requirements meaning I always go over the passenger riding technique with all passengers before they get on, i.e. get on from the left side, make sure your helmet is on securely, lean with me through turns and curves (look at the back of my head), etc.

I think she will do fine seeing she is more responsible than her siblings were at 10 years old. First ride out will tell the story tho', I guess I'll take her out and see how she does, it appears to she'll be resembling Heathers child, loving it. As far as the sleeping goes, I'll be watching for that but I didn't have a problem with the other kids, thanks for the heads-up on that one.

Bryan,
First: Wow, what a fantastic bike. That is sweet.
Second: Looks like your boy is having a ball. Keep that picture forever. Your son will someday show that to someone and tell them how cool his Dad was.

Agreed with the short around the block ride when kids are younger. Once they can "fit" correctly as a passenger and can stay at attention, then longer is fine.

I have a dream of taking off for a week trip with each of my kids (one at a time of course) and doing a father/son then a father/daughter trip. Don't know at what age that will work.

I actually think my little girl will be into it more than my son, even though he rides dirt bikes.

Bryan....keep that sled. Cool.

Bones

I know that some will disagree but my kids got there first put around the block around 2 but you have to realize tha we were a motocycle famly thats all i owned when we met i taught my wife how to ride the first night we met all my kids had ther own dirt bikes at three. thre were times when motcycles is all that we could afford . ill never foget when i came home from work one day the wife &kid & cb900 were gone she liked it for going shoping he was 4 then I bought and sold jap bikes for extra money so ther was always a bike around and not always a car . never got pulled over . and they allways wore ther safety gear. we have all had our wrecks bumps and bruses. my wife was taken our yougest to first grade 5yrs ago got ran off the road by a cager wife said that people called 911 and everything and all my boy was worried about was the sporty . my boy caught a ride to school and my wife rode a bent scoot home .so i say its up to you. they will love it . my yongest is 11 now and one good riden buddy.

My daughter was 9 (she is 11 now). She has done great over all, however she will sometimes start to doze off and then I get a helmet in the back. That scares me. I usually try to talk to her or smack her leg to make sure she is staying awake. I have thought about getting the helmet cb's so that we could talk.

My daughter is 16 and won't even consider going for a ride. She's skeered.

I can relate...My daughter was 2 when she started riding on the tank of my FXR, she is also 18 now. Time flys when your hav'in fun. When she started riding on the back, her biggest problem was falling asleep. She was one of those kids that would go to sleep as soon as she got in a car. The bike was no different. My youngest now is 5, he's been riding since 3, he loves it and has no problem staying awake

I used to ride mine around the neighborhood in SoCal and Hawaii. Started riding her around with me when she hit two. Used to sit her on the tank of my FXR. She's now 18 and runs around on a scooter... she wants a Vespa. Go figure..

My wife, when she's not riding her FLSTCI will fall asleep on the back of my Train.. even when I'm doing 90.
