I think it is against the law in 50 states and several other countries to keep a H-D stock after purchase for more than 48 hours unless a blue law prevents the sale of a modification part.
I kept my 2003 Fatboy stock for the two and a half years that I owned it. I was hopeing that the stock bike would make it more valuable as a selling point when i upgraded to the Ultra Classic. It didn't, but I am still not sorry I left it alone. Lots of comments about the "Quietest Harley ever heard" lol
I saw a completely stock Harley once. Now where was it......................Oh Yeah, it was at the factory in York, Pa. Very rare find, probably worth twice as much as one of our radically modified bikes here on the forum.
Had my stock for alomst one year - about 10,000 miles. Like others above, I did not need much more power. So, I decided on a "minor step up" and went with the SE A/C but mild mufflers (the CVO touring mufflers), and SERT, have it dyno'd. Can tell she's breathing better and got about 5 more HP and 7 more ft lbs.
Well, when I bought my last one in 94 , I was gonna leave it stock cause I liked it just the way it was. I should have known better. That lasted probally about a month. It is a addiction . [8D]
My Dad runs his Ultras bone stock, 20k a year and trades them when the warranty runs out.
I have only changed the air filter and FI map on my Road Glide and run the stock mufflers, the bike runs great gets decent fuel milage/range.
I have found that all the hot rodding that is done to the Harleys is futile, it dosen't matter how much you put into them, a stock Buell will still make them look like a chrome pig boat! So if you want a good reliable cruiser/tourer keep youre motor work to a minimum and add a 6 speed. If you want to go fast, get the Buell. It's not much more money than hopping up a Hog and it will handle the speed MUCH better. It's a great excuse for having a second bike!
