Couldn't they also loose sight of the road when their skirt flies up into their face.
Actually funny story opposite of 05's. My Father-in-law bought a scooter. He's 70. First 2 nights he had it he showed up here looking for me and each time my wife told him I wasn't home she said he looked like a dejected little kid. 3rd night he shows up and I started laughing as he pulled in on his scooter with his 1/2 helmet and leather jacket. He asks if I want to go for a ride and I said sure. I tell him to take the lead and he says no you lead. As we head out of my driveway I give it gas and that lovely twin rumbles and vibrates my house. My wife is in the driveway and as her father heads out of the driveway she dies laughing as she puts it " It sounded like a mosquito as he went up the hill." We drive a bit and wind up at his house. I go to turn of my bike and my father-in-law says "no don't turn it off, while riding down the road behind you and here in the driveway thats the first time my scooter sounded like a real bike!" He used to ride a bike a few years back but can't deal with the weight if he ever has t push or really use his legs.. At Laconia I found him a pin for his leather that says Scooter Trash and he proudly wears it. I hope I have as much fun on my Harley at 70 as he is having on his scooter. I told him this winter he needs to leave the scooter here in my work shed so I can put my old exhaust on his scoot and chrome it out.
On Friday night in Sturgis my buddy and I watched an older guy (70's?) on a Honda scooter ride right into a Dyna parked on Main Street. Knocked it to the ground but didn't do any damage that we could find. Old guy took a spill, police did an accident report. That old guy should seriously consider hanging it up.
It was kinda funny though, to see the old man on the scooter riding down Main Street Sturgis during the rally.
Just got back from a ride in the Texas Hill Country. Had a guy on a scooter wave to me. I waved back, being the swell person that I've turned into in my later years.
NHHog, talk your pa-in-law into getting a Harley. 70 is a great time for riding. I am 70 and still in the wind and hope to be so for another long while. Next summer my son and I are planning on riding to Alaska and back from Texas. We usually go to Sturgis but missed it this year because he is overseas.
You may only live once, so do every thing that you want to and are capable of. Just sayin'.

scooters are kinda cool... if you live in the city. they make a lot of sense in places like NYC or Chicago or someplace like that. otherwise, its too dangerous on the open road. in my opinion anyhow
personally i think they should ban cars in cities. but then again, i think they should have a special motorcycle only lane on all roads too. wishfull thinking
