From the folks I have talked to, including an actual call to the MB Police dept. Its not "Harley Week" that is a problem...its the "other rally". And the elected officials don't seem to have the ***** to distinguish between the 2!
Lotsa folks have bought condos/timeshares etc just so they can come down and enjoy the rallys. Business rake in lotsa $$! If Myrtle gets a reputation as being Anti-Biker it will hurt the whole local economy. Has your daddy's Condo's depreciated in value over the past few yrs? I'll bet it has.....If 1/4 of a million bikers twice a yr decided to blow off Myrtle as a vacation destination it won't be long before they are begging to have it back to the way it used to be.

OK sbdynafan, I will gladly take my tourist dollars elsewhare. As far as not being "welcome anywhere else for very long", South Dakota has been welcoming us for about 68 years now and as far as I know there are no plans to change that.

It's the NAACP at fault. MB wants the 2nd bike week gone and did change the rules for it. Then Jessy Jackson and all the other Aholes pulled together and are trying to sue MD for discrimination. If any normal person Black Or White read the statistics between the two bike weeks you will know why they want the 2nd bike week gone. But they buckled under and put there tails between there legs and now are going to feel a loss when we are gone. We ride with a few bikers of color and they attend the first bike week. Both of them called the people (Not all, some) at the 2nd bike week Animals! The key quote for 2nd bike week is "LACK OF RESPECT!"

Don't you mean reining instead of raining? Or were you referring to a weather event? Two condos and attitude. I don't know about bike week but most the bikers I know aren't A holes and calling the bikers I run with A holes would be interesting. Especially if you weren't smiling when you said it. I am always impressed at the tough men typing on the computer. At the Rally's I go to there is some disobedience but its usually minor. Requires a minimal amount of tolerance and is conducted on private property with an admission fee. One rally I went to they shut down with over zealous police tactics outside of the gate. These people are still begging the bikers to come back. They tried to get the rally back as a family event. Attendance would not support the cost. The rally is just now coming back as it used to be but attendance is still way down. Lots of money lost. The other bike rally seems to be the problem from what I read and the city of MB lacks the intestinal fortitude to solve the real problem but I am not surprised when I read the post of their supporters.

It all seems rediculous and over the top by the town fathers or who ever made those rules. MB must be getting huge. I used to go 20+ years ago and it was pretty congested then. It was mostly advertised as the Myrtle Beach all Harley Drags but there was still bumber to bumper traffic on the strip and keep in mind that was 20 years ago. And HD is even more popular since then.

I say its time to select another part of the country to start a tradition. Somewhere with lots of room and lots to see and accessible to everyone in a fair manner. I bet Myrtle Beach cries when they lose all that revenue from the rally.

Just a thought.

Myrtle Beach business' will suffer the worst.....Finding a replacement venue will be easy.....The growing ignorance of legislators is quite amusing and entertaining!

RIP Myrtle Beach!

Interesting position for a biker.

My parents also own a condo in MB and in addition to coming to bike week I visit them about once a month as I only live about three hrs. away.

I also spend alot of money on other attractions at the beach throughout the year......... Golf, Shopping, Restaurants etc..
I may not be so eager to patronize these other attractions in MB if they pass this nonsense.

How many Bike Week attendees are also tourists at other times of the year?

Out of all the times I have visited MB I have NEVER seen a biker "terrorize" anyone.
But as a biker, I have had a bit of terror bestowed on me courtesy of the local MB cagers.

To Myrtle Beach city officials:

You can't have my cake and eat it too.

It's the noise and those "rough lookin' mean ole' bikers" for one event, and more noise and crime and all kinds of scariness during the other, I'm guessing.. The powers that be are finally around to taking action to make it happen through ordinances.

Background: My guess is... There's the issue between the two different "bike weeks"... Apparently one of the events gets pretty "out-of-hand" for the locals that live down there to tolerate.

So the big solution was evident... They figured, in order to get rid of the problem-child bike week, then we'll have to get rid of them both to avoid national headlines as a big "there goes the south again" controversy.
In a "politcally correct" move the legislators decided to can both events......They don't want to be labeled racist by the group who is ruining it for the ones who actually behave and tip well!

For SBdynafan:

I am a professional person who come during bike week. I stay in a nice hotel ( I have a mountain house where people have common sense) eat at the best restaurants, tip well, don't drink and ride and generally don't do anything I would not want my Mother to see. My wife doesn't show her *****, go without drawers and conducts herself with class. We spend money there because we like going and seeing other bikes and friends from other parts of the country. All this being said, how can you figure I'm one of "those biker aholes"? How do I trash your city or rather your daddy's ? I recently spent a week in Cherry Grove and rented a house on the beach. You may rest assured the cost was not cheap. Why do I write these things? To show yo how wrong and biased you are. Open your eyes and realize that if they kick the bikers out, it will be hard to fill the hotel rooms and restaurants during Harley week. It's too early for the familys to come down because school is still in session, too soon for the college kids to come (talk about trashing places) and the golfers won't fill it in the numbers we do. Myrtle beach will lose signifigant revenue.

And finally, for someone who purports himself to be a biker, you sure do have a strange attitude. Maybe you need to get a Honda and go to Honda Hoots
