HENNIKER, N.H. (AP) - Police say a Hopkinton, N.H., police officer was killed on his way home from work early Thursday when another driver hit his motorcycle on Route 202 and 9 and fled.
Investigators say Sean Powers of Hillsboro was killed when his motorcycle was rear-ended just before 1:30 a.m. He then was struck by a second car. Powers was 24 and had served two tours of duty with the Marines in Iraq.
Police say the first car driver, Jeff Dennis of Henniker, ran away and was found after an all-night search that included the state police helicopter and a police dog.
Hopkinton Police chief David Wheeler said Powers joined the department in April and had just completed its field training program. Wheeler said Powers was scheduled to begin training at the police academy on Aug. 25.
