I use hand signals but very rarely use the turn signals.

Use 'em on my bikes without turn signals .... used them on my new RK out of habit, but have since given it up.

I use them sometimes in heavier traffic so they see me easier.

I stand up, wave, jump up and down! I want a frickin flashing light on my head!
Seriously, I use hand signals quite frequently along with the electric ones. Especially if I am riding with someone.
Just seems natural.

The most widely used hand signal that I use is the one finger salute to the dipst!t that just cut me off.

Default Hand Signals

Use them all the time, read between the lines. If they can't see my turn and stoplights I am already using defensive action. And hand signals, typically just one finger needed. People don't pay attention when they are on their cell phone.

I use em when I'm leadin the group.. Good way to make sure everybody can see the signals.. when they copy I can see it in my mirrors.. we also use signals to point out road hazards such as gravel, roadkill etc..

I always use the turn signals and quite a bit of the time hand signals also. I figure it's worth the effort, if it keeps just one cage from running into you. I also blip my brake light just before stopping and when I am stopped, if someone is coming up behind me.
