Can any people recommend a company or place to buy good leather that is good for cool/cold weather riding. Im riding until they put salt on the roads and want something other than my own personal blubber to keep me warm. Im not looking to spend a fortune. Just want some good heavy duty leather, vest, jacket, and chaps. A nice inside layer of insulation would be good.
TIA
Jake
Picked up a set of HD's latest FXRG "waterproof" leathers last year and I was pretty impressed with the warmth and versatility. I'm usually not a big fan of HD's leather, but that is one very warm jacket. Pulled up to a light in Nor Cal with drifts of snow forming on my arms and feeling warmer and drier than the folks in the Lexus next to me. They've been out for a while now and you should be able to find some on Ebay for cheap.
Too bad they're ugly as... um, something that's really unattractive.
I use Fox Creek Leather (jacket and overpants) and Gerbing heated jacket and gloves. Pricey but good down to low 20's and both products have lifetime warranty.
I have an Interstate brand with the removeable lining. I beleive a good bang for the buck. My chaps are older than most ppl on this forum.
I wear the jacket down into the 20's. Will put a heavy hoodie on underneath also.
Make sure the jacket has sleeves long enough when you grab the bars, and the chaps are long enough to cover your boots when seated on the scoot. Don't forget gauntlet gloves for cold weather riding.
Thanks for the reminder. Getting that tme of the year, to put the lining back in.
Just get whatever leather suits your style and budget, then spend the extra bucks on Gerbings gear to stay warm. Heated gear was the best MC accessory money that I have ever spent.
When I wrecked my panhead I destroyed the old bomber jacket I had always worn ( but it probably saved my right arm! ). Still have not found a really good replacement and now that I am riding again I am thinking of hitting the Army Surplus for a replacement. They are not black and don't have any chains or shiny zippers, but they are warm and weather proof. The older 70s style jackets with the fur collar are about the best.
