Until I started visiting this site I never realized it was such a big deal.Never gave it a second thought about how other people look at my bikes. After all it is me that is shelling out the coin, not to mention, why in the world would I even try to make everybody else happy with my creations. No way on God's green earth is it possible.
I built my bike with the same thing in mind - what makes ME happy.
Now saying that - It is pretty cool when people take pictures of it, when I win a bike show, when people are checking it out and I meet new people along the road that like it and we end up talking for hours about bikes..ect. ect.
I enjoy cleaningnit as much as I do riding across country. I have riden it through some of the craziest thunderstorms in the mid-west (Sturgis 06' there was a sink hole on the south end of the park from so much hail - got a picture somewhere - it was crazy)
I'd be lying if I said I didn't give a %@!$^. I have done all the work myself, and have spent a lot of time and money building it. It feels good when other people appreciate that and understand the time and thought that went into it. Especially since I built it after my Mom got burned to death in a fire in 02' and I went off the deep-end till I built it and got back on the road...
15,000+ miles and 18 states later it is still good therapy and a conversation starter...
I like my yard best when it is freshly cut. I like my garage best when it is organized and neat. I have plants in my yard because I like the plants or the fruit that they bear; not so that my neighbors will compliment me on my plants. I like to add chrome and doo-dads to my bike. It makes me feel good to hang out at the local watering hole and socialize with good friends and riding partners knowing that my bike is looking good in the parking lot and patiently awaiting my return. I like it when someone says "Yuck! I don't like red motorcycles," so that I can say, "If I ever want your opinion I will beat it out of you."
I build em to suit me, Always have some mod planned for over the winter.. My bikes been washed once this season and I didn't do it.. My VP lost a bet.. I ride pretty much everyday and everywhere I go.. Unless I'm haulin more the one kid.. I'll wash it end of season.... National Pride car wash..
I basically don't give a damn what other people think about almost anything including my bike. And the older I get the less I care what people think and I didn't care that much when I was younger.
+1 on that! 55 and caring less every day! Current bike draws lots of "that shore is a purty bike!" but last ride was a matt black rat, the only shiny thing on it was the oil leaks.

I think what it comes down to is just being comfortable in our own skin. Ya gotta love yourself long before anyone else is going to. Living your life as others see fit just really doesn't work.
That being said, I'd be willing to be that most people would agree that getting compliments on the things that are important to us feels good.

...really dont give a damn what other folks think about their bike....I have customized my bike to suit me...looks like **** and dirty as hell...if a water hose wont take it off,it belongs there...:>)
Obviously he cares. I'm sure he is even embarrassed about how his bike looks. That's why he made this post.... to tell "someone" to fk off.
Anyway.... like I always say, there's a lot of different types of motorcycles out there nowadays, and I have one of them.
Sometimes mine is clean, sometimes it's dirty. I really don't care......If I want it to shine, it will, but if I don't feel like cleaning, then I don't. I'd rather be out riding a dirty bike than staring at a clean one sitting in the garage. As far as mods go, I don't give a **** what anyone else thinks. I like my scooter- I did it for me, no one else.
