Ron, I know the Heritages I have been looking at have "B" motors, but cannot tell you the difference between the A and B models. Any advise?

Flying Horse, I haven't seen any Road King Customs but will keep my eyes open for them, especially if they sit lower than the original.
Try and find an 07 Road King Custom, it will have the 96" motor. Try it, you will like it.
They no longer make the RK Custom but replaced it with the Street Glide.

They RK Customs come with leather saddlebags but the hardbags fit if you choose to change over. I changed to the hardbags only because I wanted to paint them, now I'm thinking of changing back.

I'm just over 5'6 with a 28" inseam and was looking at the same 2 models..
I really liked the Heritage...but ended up with the Road King FLHRI.
Very well balanced..not hard to drive around town..and great on the road.
I had the HD profile shocks put on ( about 3/4 inch lower seat height)and the reduced reach hadlebars..and I flatfoot the bike, even with the HD pillow touring seat and have a really good riding position with the new bars.
I like the locking hard bags and airshocks and a little more gvwr.
Both really nice...but I found the RK fit our needs a little better.

Johnny,

Were you able to flat foot the R.K. before you changed out the shocks?

Your comments about the bike hit home and have me thinking hard about the FLHRI.

BTW, that is a great looking bike!

Two more days until the Safe Riding Course!

[quote=Steve & Deb;3850373]Johnny,

No,
I was up on the ***** of my feet..which did not feel right with a 760+ lb. bike. The dealer mentioned the profile shocks( I think they are the stock shock on the Street Glide or Road Glide can't remember which..)
and we added them as part of the deal..still HD parts ..still the air ride quality and adjustability, just a little lower...and with my riding boots I flatfoot w/ knees bent a little..it just makes me feel like I have more control at a stop. The RK is so well balanced you can about just sit there and pick your feet up..and well..sit there...lol..but I think it makes the bike a bit easier to move around..like backing it out and such..
I can't say enough about the handlebars as well..2 great and pretty inexpensive upgrades that for me made all the difference in comfort.
Good luck on the Riding course..
Thanks for the nice comments on the scoot!
John

First off, WELKUM to the Zoo. Glad you're here. Put on your helmet, you may need it, for the bashing here, not riding. j/k

Some folks do complain about the ride of the Heritage vs Rk or Baggerz.
I don't know, they seem to ride REALLY nice when I get a chance to ride one. But then, see pic.

I am 6'6", RKs and baggerz are just a little short coupled for me. But ride 'em all, whilst you have the chance, B4 you plunk down your $$$.

Word of Caution - thr Road King is a great bike but just to clarify any misconceptions.

Johnny's Road King can be lowered as all Road Kings except the RK Custom. The Custom is already lowered to it's lowest point. I just don't want you to buy a RK Custom with the intent of having it lowered..

The RK and the RK CLassic can be lowered simply by installing the RK Custom shocks.

*there may be some aftermarket kits out there that can lower the Custom that I'm not aware of. If so you can bet they are esxpensive.....

Good luck choosing...I tried to rent but Carolina HD would not rent to me because I had not ridden in 25 years. I went to a demo day in Charlotte and rode 4 different models(no softails). I liked them all but since the wife likes to ride ,we ended up with this one. I am 6'3 so it ain't really a fair comparison but I can say we are thrilled with our choice. This bike has been nothing but a pleasure and it handles great. Good luck!

'08 Softail Heritage here, and I love it. I highly recommend this bike, mainly due to the 96B engine, and the overall style. Good Luck
