while surfing the gainesville harley site yesterday i found that they were doing a demo day today...well i had work at 2 so i thought great! ill stop by in the morning...when i got there it was apparent that they didnt advertise this...at first i wasnt ever sure if i got the day right...everything looked normal and it was generally dead...i asked one of the salesmen and he replied yea we dont have many choices but youre more than welcome to take one out...all they had was a nightster and a street bob...idk if this is the norm because its the first time ive ever done it but basically they hold your credit card in case you decide to run off and leave and just give you the keys and say have fun
i chose the nightster because ive ridden an 883 and no offense to my brother (who has one) or anyone on here with one but i hated it...feels soooooooo underpowered and ive heard that the 1200 is a completely different beast...this one was the black and orange and was completely stock...well he pulled it over for me and i went to crank it..nothing...again nothing but clicking...great a dead battery..so i waited about 10 mins for them to go over everything completely and charge it...finally got it out and drove off...first impression was WOW!! this is a totally different bike than my brothers 883...full throttle in first and i could almost lift the front wheel...could probably clutch it up easy...rode a total of 20 miles and thought ehh the suspension is way to stiff and i would deff change the stock seat...other than that i wouldnt mind having one to scoot around town and just play around with...an overall fun bike...but actually feel that i would rather ride my sportbike on a long distance trip
when i got back i asked if i could take the bob out as well..."absolutely lemme grab the keys" was the response i got...street bob had a 2 into 1 supertrapp exhaust and a screamin eagle air filter...soon as he cranked it up mannnnnn it sounded good and i already liked it...first impression was man this thing is big...ive ridden one other dyna before and thats my dads wide glide...his bike just doesnt suit me...im not a big fan of apes and his has forward controls as well...im short and BARELY reach his controls...just feel too stretched out to be relaxed on his...anyways as i took off i noticed i actually really liked the mid controls...probably because im used to the sportbike posture...second thing i noticed was wow this is ALOT smoother and more comfortable ride than the nightster...felt like going from a suped up go cart to a fast luxury car...i loved the torque...and was impressed with the acceleration as well...i was even impressed with the handling...i felt the street bob was just as flickable as the sport...ended up riding 24 miles on it but i didnt want to bring it back haha...the only complaint about it is an easy fix...the mini apes...i think if the bars werent so high it would be perfect...maybe some risers with drag bars or something....needless to say i reallllly enjoyed it
when it was time to leave and i got back on my own bike it felt soo weird...like i was sitting on top of a toy...i missed the torque too but theres no way id ever give up my bike...if i had the money and could keep my sportbike i would go tomorrow and get the street bob...soooooo fla crew youve gotta mission! donate to the buy derek a harley cause!! haha..anyways i look forward to seeing everyone and all the new faces in ocala in november
The HD demo day I went to had a tractor trailer with 13 bikes to ride....no credit card required...just a valid license and helmet(DOT). They had softails, Ultras, sportsters, VRods, SE Road kings, FatBobs, pretty much a complete cross section of the product line. The FatBob was my fave but I had to get one to acommodate the wife so...
That's what's happening at Petersons Harley in North Miami this weekend, I'm going again today for another DEMO RIDE.........
and NO credit cards required, they just check your license.
He is up there getting educated. He must be learning something. I bet that Street Bob would be cheaper than the Environmental Science degree he is working on.
But in the end that degree may pay dividends to his ole man.
Again Jerry! Really hate to miss the ride with your son.
ha! if there was anyway i could drop outta college and live the rest of my life doing nothing but riding motorcycles...i would do it in a heartbeat...hopefully this degree will allow me to own several bikes years down the road...then i can have one of each!
