I am going to have to demo ride them, but I am pretty sure I'm sold on the Fatboy. I don't mind the vibration from the dyna, I don't really like the bobtail fender too much, but there is always the option of swapping it out for the sport one.. We'll see, but I really appreciate the points of view that have been shared here, because they've been helpful.

unless you ride wide open throttle every where you go it really is just a matter of personal prefrence. on a recent 300 mile trip there was my stage 2 103 fatbob a buddies bone stock heritage soft tail 1450 a couple of guys on sporties both 883 and a 1200 custom and my buddies wife on a honda shadow 750. we all run between 70mph and 80 mph down the interstate for most of the trip and maybe 50 miles on secondary road. every rider and bike made it one right behind the other, in the real world under normal riding it really doesnt matter as long as your riding the bike you like. I had a 1200r that was a great bike loved it until I traded and still wish I had it from time to time but since I beat anorexia 6ft1 240lbs ) I like the comfort of my dyna.

Yes. You can go 1300cc+, high compression, e&

I would go the route of using Buell parts personally, you can get 100ish hp out of that engine.

More info? The Moco doesn't have anything really, and I didn't know any 3rd party makers even cared about the sporty.

Dude...get yourself a big boys bike, you are way too big for a 883. I test drove a Fat Bob and a 1200 Sporty couple weeks back and I gotta tell you...the sporty sucked in comparison. And yes...the handling was way better on the Fat Bob, it was the best out of all the bikes I rode that day, at least IMO.

Do yourself a favor and go do some test riding BEFORE you dump money in your little bike, I think you will find that the big ones just feel right.

Herr Monk pretty much laid it out. Piece together your own 1200 upgrade kit and you'll blow me away any day of the week. I love my bike, and I love the handling - once it's paid off I'll probably get into the motor a bit more. I've always looked at Dyna's as the more straightforward drivers of the big twins, and softails as the more showy. That doesn't mean that can't be reversed in some situations - I've seen plenty of dressed up dynas and plenty of stripped down softails. If I were you, since you're holding on to that sporty for a while (I assume at least another season) - build it up into a 1200 this winter, ride it, and then decide. A better seat can make a huge difference in comfort. I agree that you're a bit big for it, but you can tweak it, build the motor, and still have more money leftover than you would if you traded it in on either a fatbob or fatboy.

What I was thinking was that I would get me a mustang vintage wide solo seat, and do a few things this year, enjoy the fuel economy for this year (new baby on the way, so the money saved will be nice) Get some riding experience under my belt (only one year experience on off-road bikes prior to my harley) Upgrade it to a 1200, ride it for another year or so, and then sell, or stow and buy a fat boy, or fat bob, depending on which one I like more on the test rides.

jwb47 - if you beat Anorexia, I must've crushed it.

I love riding, I do enjoy performance, but me riding Harleys is my way of not looking like an utter dork (riding a scooter), but still being economic on fuel.. Besides I've always been a fan of Harleys. I won't buy a metric, so that wasn't an option.

I am completely satisfied that I bought a Harley-Davidson. My Sportster is a lot of fun, I recently went on a ride with a ducati 966, and a 1300cc Honda. I was the slowest bike of the pack, but only the ducati could handle better than me. It was a lot of fun to ride with others. I have made a lot of friends riding around, been hollered at several times to pull over and talk shop with other HD owners in their garage.
