Is it just me????? I retired three years ago at the ripe old age of 49. I ride alot and look at motorcycle forums. I've been to a slew of Harley Davidson web pages and to be honest... I am bored out of my mind... Work was a headache... but it was something to do... You can only ride a Harley for so much and the gas bills add up... I hate to admit it... but I miss the frustrating old job!
I also was able to retire at age 50 and my wife is about to retire at
age 49 from our local school system. Great thing about being an educator
is that if you can live with the low pay and hang in there the pension
plan is incredible.
I retired at the end of last year and have found there are several cheesey
part-time jobs out there that are low stress and FUN. I'm hoping that will be the
mode of operating for a long time. 2 days a week of work leaves a lot of time for riding,
golf, fishing, etc!
You retired to young, sorry about that, but after 37 years 6 months and 5 days with a utility co. I am not bored, just thankfull to be able to sleep in and do what I want, when I want..I think maybe you need to find a hobby or something, go volnteer with the local VA., or the local hosp..if nothing else find a part-time job, as for me, not interested in anything but enjoying life. Perhaps if I was a young as you I would feel the same way!! Why did you retire so young??
The organization was downsizing and they offered full retirement with benifits to anyone who had 30 years of service... Sounded too good to believe... So I jumped at it... Don't get me wrong... the benifits are outstanding and the retirement pay is good... It's just hard to let go of 10 hours a day including commute and work... For the first 2 1/2 years it was great... and then doing nothing got old...
Our plant is closing Oct.27th so I'll be retired then. Could have left Christmas but was asked to stay and help with the closing. I'll be going to work at the local bike shop in the parts department and can't wait! The owner said I might as well work being I'm there half the time anyway. He thought I already did.. At this stage of the game it's time to have fun and thats what I am going to do. What ever you do have a little fun and enjoy you're self. You've earned it.. Rick
Thunder,
I know what you mean. I retired seven years ago at 56. I should have taken a vacation and recharged my batteries. But you can't go back. Retired to my wifes home region and built a house in the country in SW WI. Both days of summer are great riding here. It's the rest of the year that bores me to death. When you can play all the time it loses something. Wish I had some cheese to go with my WHINE.
this winter I joined the YMCA and go up to the gym mon. wed. and Fri. for a couple of hours to work out, not trying to become strong just get rid of some excess weight [X(] that is something I look forward to now..everyday that I can, I ride, sometimes to SW Wis. to. seems to me that maybe I'm glad I waited to 62 to retire, at least I'm enjoying it..Hope you guys can to..
