Leave L.A. and head north up PCH.......After you get out of Malibu pick any Canyon and turn right.....I liked this ride best. When you get to Peperdine University turn right onto Malibu Canyon....head up the Canyon and when you get to Mulholand drive go left.....enjoy. Good biker bar up there as well.
I've lived in So Cal all my life, and the riding, aside from the weather, is not that great in the metro area. You have to get out to the edges to rind good riding. The local mountains are great, but it helps if you can approach them from the back side. My BIL lives in Hesperia and that works for me. The San Gabriels and San Berdoo Mtns are both great, as are the canyons above Malibu, but watch out for the crotch rockets. Where they go, or any riders, for that matter, (Newcomb's, Rock Store, Carbon Canyon, Cook's Corner, etc) there will be police. PCH is OK, but traffic is bad, escpecially on weekends. Early morning is the best time to ride PCH. Be aware that many beach cities monitor sound levels, so if you have loud pipes, take it easy.
If you go to julian you got to get and apple pie from the Julian pie company best apple pie I've ever had. In malibu you could check out the Rock Store on mulholland hiway also good canyon riding in the Santa monica mtns I lived down there for almost 40 years in Oregon now for 14 years great riding but long winters
++1 on Julian Pie Co. Be sure to get Peach Apple Pie w/ cinnimon ice cream. Then for desert apple doughnuts. Also +1 for Rock Store Tri-Tip sandwiches.

Hey Shane, they are coming from the NORTH.....if they turn RIGHT on PCH they are going to get very wet very fast!
On your way down there is a pretty cool bike museum in Solvang. I think it's on Soledad Street but not sure. Nice history of some cool bikes. From there you can take a two lane hiway down to Santa Barbara that's worth a ride.
Lived in So. Cal for a year. Was not impressed but was depressed by the over crowded situation. Couldn't wait to leave. Left in 1972, never been back. If it isn't monsoon season, then it's fire season.
