Default Probably dumb question. Mounting bike

How do you bigger guys (I'm 6'2" and 300# with jumbo feet) get on your bikes with backrests, sissybars, tourpacks, etc...

I just put on a sissybar and cant get on without kicking or rubbing the sissybar unless I pay real close attention and go slowly.
I must be doing something wrong. I can't figure out how to get on an ultra without rubbing my foot somewhere.
I'd like to put a bag on the back, but not until I master the ancient technique of the masters.

I know this is dumb, and maybe its just a function of my fat-azz.

So feel free to make fun, but if you have advice, I'd like some.

Thank you,

No problem. I'm 5-8 and have the same problem. Don't swing your leg over. Place your right foot on the seat and slide your leg over. You may be able to do it without touching the seat but I can't.

I am a little over 6' and about 220 and for some reason I do better getting on and off the bike from the high side (right side) since I put the sissy bar on. I always liked getting off the bike from the high side but now I find it easier to get on it from that side too when I have the sissy bar attached.

This is soooooooooooooooooo easy!

1. Mount from the right side of the bike...air cleaner side

2. Left leg over, butt in the saddle

Once you do this half a dozen times, you will NEVER get on from the kickstand side again! Think about it...why climb OVER the bike when you can climb INTO it...TRY IT.

Yup, get on from the right side or step on the floorboard and then throw your leg over. That's what I do with my short legs.

i get on in the same manner as Terry mentioned and do it from the left side. if i'm bundled up for colder weather, i actually have to grab my knee to lift my leg that high. i dismount to the right.

Dumb question......... geeeeze I thought it was only me that had trouble with that, I have no trouble getting on, it's the dismount that gets me for some reason my right leg just won't lift high enough not to catch on the bitch seat, hadn't thought of leaveing left foot on the foot board and just slidding off, oh by the way i'm 6'3" 300 pounder, My wife say's I have the hugest head in the known world, do you think she's talking about the one between my shoulder's or???????????? Hmmmmmm

Man, I was always hitting my hard bags, and scratching them! Now, I stand on the left side of the bike, lift my right leg as high as I can(kinda like a male dog taking a ****), then grab my leg with my right arm and pull it up farther, then swing my leg over the seat, and gently let it down with my arm[:-]. I'm 6'5", and this seams to be the only way I don't hit anything.

I get on on the high side (air cleaner side) and get off on the low side... Actually depends on where or how I am parked.

If you have ever taken a martial arts class this will make sense:

Go into a side kick stance... That is how I do it. Balace on the one leg, shoot the other 90 degrees from the body and lean over.

I had more problems when my boots were new... They just felt so dang heavy and awkward that I dragged them around like crazy...

Just pay attention now and eventually it will become habit. So what if you get on slow? Not like there is a race to see how fast you can get on. And some of us creak and crack when we get on... So we are slow naturally. =)

Oh... and I am not a "bigger guy." Only about 5'10"ish... So it seems to me it should be harder for me to get on and off...
