Well, if'n you were REALLY lucky, the countersunk allen bolt that holds the rachet cover on a 4 spd, when it falls, fits JUST perfectly between the sprocket and the tranny case. In fact, fits so well, that it wedges in there, and prevents back wheel from turning. Uhhhh, read that in an article in Easyrider yrs ago.
But the solution is to pull the whole shebang, and loosen sprocket on output shaft. Then that li'l booger falls right to the floor, where it was s'posed to go on it's own.
Had to take a break or my head will fly off my neck. Its a nice palmy 27 degrees today and figured Michele (wife) and I wouldn't be taking any rides for a little while. So I decided to pull the batteries as I do every year and keep them in the warm basement. Didn't get a trickle charger yet.
Well dropped a screw and heard it fall down by the starter. Flashlight and pen magnet in hand and do you believe GONE ! Looked now for 20 minutes and shook bike. It must have fallen into abyss. I quess thats where the other sock winds up.

could very well be down on top of the belt or in the dish of the primary search with a magnet back in there before even moving the bike.I did same thing several yrs back and once moved bike i heard the bolt then it was down in the dish and couldnt get it out till pull primary grrrr
