I went to an independent shop to see about getting a rear tire for my '05 Super Glide.
He quoted me a price of $210.00+tax. This includes the tire, mounting and balancing.
Does this seem a little steep. This is my first bike so I am not sure about some of the work
involved in doing things like this. Is this something an amateur wrencher can do.
any advise would be helpful.
The guy I go to will remove, mount and balance a new tire (I supply the tire) for $50. Check American Motorcycle Tire and southwest moto tires for prices. I hope this helps.
I bought a my rear tire from Wally's cycle world (Metzler Marathon) for $115 to my door and then I paid a local shop $45 to mount balance and install. The shop wanted $220 (incl tax) if I bought the tire from them.
A tire from American Motorcycle Tire should be about 100.00 for your application. Add 14.00 for shipping. I have a Independent shop that will mount and ballance off of the bike for 25.00.
If you have just a few tools and a shop manual you can take the tire off and put it on yourself. The only speciality tools you will need will be a belt tension gauge and a torque wrench. That's under 100.00. It will only take a couple of tire changes for the tools to pay for themselves.
Regards,
Bill

I just got both tires on my FXRS replaced on Saturday. It was $309.00 out the door. I was quoted $176.00 for the rear alone. That was mounting, balancing, packing the bearings, replacing the seals, R & R and the tire disposal fee.
